Did your mother have poor eyesight before? Because that's pretty awesome to have 20-20 now!
And I know what you mean about paper pulverization. ;_; Once you get down and into it though (like I enter a weird trance where I just chuck papers out while writing but it takes a while to get to that point), it won't feel so bad. Thankfully as you move past these "required" courses and core courses, you'll move away from paper writing and more into conceptual writing for your projects and actual artistic follow-through.
Yeah, she was legally blind and getting worse before surgery due to her rheumatoid arthritis. It's great to see her so much more independent again!
Well, I've always had trouble explaining my thought processes in the form of words intelligible enough to be called "scholarly workmanship", so this has just been hell for me. I think backwards. So, I have to write backwards, conclusion to beginning line. It isn't dyslexia, I just have a brain that arrives at the answer to something before it defines what its answering! This is why I was eike-mun. In any case, I'm doomed if I don't learn some method of culminating my writing 'skills' into something that isn't such a struggle. I'm already looking at not going back to college for a sophomore year thanks to this bringing my grades down, losing me scholarships and having money woes that rise well into the thousands of potch. Ahh!!! Am I right?
Does your school have some sort of writing program? I know where I am we have a writing center and a tutoring program (both are free). Also, many professors are more than happy to sit with you (if it's not a HUGE HUGE school) and help go over your work, especially if they knew that it discouraged you enough to consider not returning to school
