Now that I think about it, shouldn't it have been Romanova? I guess... I think...

The Avengers was a fun film. (And I think I've got the beginnings of a drabble) but I think I'll do what you're planning to do. Just watch.

Now I need to ask what's so funny about her name- I can think of few reasons why it's weird, but funny? (ok, I'm just glad she wasn't named Anastasia Romanowa - cos that's what I think first of when I think 'Romanow', ha ha )

And yes +1 to the eye candy. All those shots from behind were *khe khe* necessary to advance the plot.

I know you said you're not interested in fanfic, but [this one]. If not for the Avengers, then for the plot, seriously, just that good.

ETA: I don't think Loki was mindless in this- I think he did what he had to be get back/ be taken to Asgard. If you're not very much into Avengers comics you won't notice what Odin had in his treasury seen in Thor- few artefacts that Loki could use in his plans of dominating Thor and Asgard. So- the guy after the credits, Thanos, is probably after the Infinity Gauntlet that is hidden in Asgard, Loki worked with him, Loki is in Asgard, exactly where he wanted to be. I hope I'm not reading too much to it, but if it's the case- somebody managed the continuity between so many ( ... )

It's funny because of the absurdity of the fact that all those years after the first Bond movies and KGB agents what's-her-name Tatiana something, we're still here, using male surnames for female characters. I mean, it's not rocket science. Those guys wanna have a Russian character? Cool. They can't even name her right, for God's sake. *eyeroll*

Yes, the thing about Loki is that I'm very attached to the actual mythology version, where he's like the smartest guy in existence (and not that much of a power monger), so after that a 'comic book version' really doesn't cut it, even with how amazing Tom Hiddleston is. For me personally. ;)

Oh, well, don't let me start on that subject then, please. You have no idea how it pisses me off, seriously, when every Polish woman is Kowalski, while she should be Kowalska. So so simple. Or when that doctor in TNG was Pulasky. Puławska. It irritated me so much that I just skipped whole season. Not to mention they took first historical surname that popped up. But in comics she's called both Romanova and Romanov/Romanoff. Probably same thing as with Kowalsky case, when Americans didn't have a clue how gender-depended language works and they just stuck to one form to make it easier, which imo is just lack of cultural sensitivity :/ Still what makes me laugh the most is that Pavel Andrieievich Checkov is sometimes given Ilja for a father in fanfiction- top that ( ... )

Really? Oh my God, that's hilarious. Thanks for that gem. :D

Yeah, no, it's fine. I'm a bit of a mythology geek, it was sort of a passion of mine since I was about 10. It faded with years, but the things you learn young tend to stick with you. :)

I love the Avengers... I do.

The name Natasha alone makes me giggle (It reminds me of Natasha Fatale.) and the last name Romanov makes me raise my eyebrow. Are they implying that she is Russian Royalty or somehthing? However, I will cut Marvel some slack with her as her character was originally a bad guy and she was created during the Cold War. She's an awesome character... who needed the upgrade she has received.

I admit that I have written for The Avengers fandom... though that is because of a comment Tom Hiddleston made. Do I see it becoming a regular occurrence? No, I am too damned happy with Star Trek to venture into another fandom.

In other words... I respect your decision.

She sounds like she's retarded at the very least. Assuming that is, that she's actually Russian and not some generations past immigrant. If she were, 'Romanov' could perhaps be acceptable. As it is, it only serves to make the impression that the movie was made during the Cold War, too.

I mean, you know, it doesn't actually take some thousand dollars worth of research. All it takes is an assistant of an assistant with a laptop and 20 minutes of time. With breaks for porn googling and all. ;)

As it is, it's carelessness at best, and mockery at worst. Personally, I'm convinced it's the general lazy-ass-ness of the film makers, and I don't particularly care. Like this stuff is news. But yeah, it makes the whole thing pure crack to me, and crack isn't really my thing. ;)

First of all - all selfish-like - I am glad you're not leaving for more superhero-y pastures.

Second of all, at least she wasn't an evil villain? lol

In conclusion, I can't wait for the new Star Trek movie. I want the fandom to rise from the dead.

I'd take an evil villain with a correctly made name. Actually, I'd prefer that. ;)

Yeah, I'm not super enthusiastic about that, either, although I'm curious, of course. ;)
