Now I need to ask what's so funny about her name- I can think of few reasons why it's weird, but funny? (ok, I'm just glad she wasn't named Anastasia Romanowa - cos that's what I think first of when I think 'Romanow', ha ha )
And yes +1 to the eye candy. All those shots from behind were *khe khe* necessary to advance the plot.
I know you said you're not interested in fanfic, but [this one]. If not for the Avengers, then for the plot, seriously, just that good.
ETA: I don't think Loki was mindless in this- I think he did what he had to be get back/ be taken to Asgard. If you're not very much into Avengers comics you won't notice what Odin had in his treasury seen in Thor- few artefacts that Loki could use in his plans of dominating Thor and Asgard. So- the guy after the credits, Thanos, is probably after the Infinity Gauntlet that is hidden in Asgard, Loki worked with him, Loki is in Asgard, exactly where he wanted to be. I hope I'm not reading too much to it, but if it's the case- somebody managed the continuity between so many
( ... )
It's funny because of the absurdity of the fact that all those years after the first Bond movies and KGB agents what's-her-name Tatiana something, we're still here, using male surnames for female characters. I mean, it's not rocket science. Those guys wanna have a Russian character? Cool. They can't even name her right, for God's sake. *eyeroll*
Yes, the thing about Loki is that I'm very attached to the actual mythology version, where he's like the smartest guy in existence (and not that much of a power monger), so after that a 'comic book version' really doesn't cut it, even with how amazing Tom Hiddleston is. For me personally. ;)
Oh, well, don't let me start on that subject then, please. You have no idea how it pisses me off, seriously, when every Polish woman is Kowalski, while she should be Kowalska. So so simple. Or when that doctor in TNG was Pulasky. Puławska. It irritated me so much that I just skipped whole season. Not to mention they took first historical surname that popped up. But in comics she's called both Romanova and Romanov/Romanoff. Probably same thing as with Kowalsky case, when Americans didn't have a clue how gender-depended language works and they just stuck to one form to make it easier, which imo is just lack of cultural sensitivity :/ Still what makes me laugh the most is that Pavel Andrieievich Checkov is sometimes given Ilja for a father in fanfiction- top that

Pavel Andrieievich Checkov is sometimes given Ilja for a father
Really? Oh my God, that's hilarious. Thanks for that gem. :D
Yeah, no, it's fine. I'm a bit of a mythology geek, it was sort of a passion of mine since I was about 10. It faded with years, but the things you learn young tend to stick with you. :)
Which makes me think that you should be happy, ya know, Russians at least get characters in mainstream pop culture, no matter how culturally insensitive the creators are. All we get is some random Kowalsky yelling "kurwa" from the dumpster, ha ha. No, but seriously, it's annoying on so many levels.
But the thing with mismatched father's name- most people don't even know that there is a pattern with Russian names. I remember one of my friend asking why Putin's two names are same and if his parents had weird sense of humour. I knew about patronymics just because I live by the border with a lot of Russians and Ukraininas around.
Oh, btw, was meant to ask and forgot - was Black Widow's Russian lines as bad as I thought? I ent to see the film with a girl who studied Russian and she just facepalmed.
You know, I'd be much happier without Russian characters in mainstream pop culture. No really. They're always done wrong, they always make me cringe, and it always throws me out of the atmosphere of whatever it is I'm watching or reading. I'd much rather never have to deal with that at all.
Haha. I'm going to assume that 'kurwa' means the same thing in Polish as it does in Russian. :D Hey, what do you know, if we're desperate, our two peoples will always be able to communicate via swear words at least. :D
They're always done wrong Probably because they are just a cliché of a Russian and not a character in their own right. It's sad thing. But it's Hollywood, probably portraying Russians is the smallest of their faults :/
It probably does mean same thing. Well, I live by the border, as mentioned, and I have no problems with Russian, Ukrainian and Slovak. Czech is too weird, srsly. I mean I don't speak any of those, but I can communicate and watch their TV,so it's not only swear words :D
Oh, I asked wrong- don't know if you watched subbed or dubbed- I watched the former and Widow talked in Russian with a general (btw the actor was Polish very famous film director, I just lol'd) and Scarlett's accent was just very very bad. And I wondered why they didn't dubbed her lines with Russian actress. Because, you know, a Russian speaking Russian with terrible English accent. You're doing it right.
You know what karma is? I've just been given an assignment to translate synopsis for a show about Russian gangs... written by Americans. :D Kill me now just about sums it up. /o\
She was dubbed, the whole cast were, so whatever horrible accent she spoke with, we didn't get to hear, thank God. Small mercies.
Karma must love you, what did you do in your previous life- killed kittens basketful? But, OMG, is it any good? Or just another cut-out Russians from a Big Book of all the Cliches? XD Sorry, I'm just laughing too hard.
It was horrible, the actress doesn't speak Russian and it shows. I watched original version, because after I saw previews of Polish dub and the translation was bad.
You didn't have two options? The dubb wasn't that bad voice wise, but it was off mostly due to script- as if the person who wrote it didn't understand at all how Polish language works, cos they translated word-by-word English text :/
Ok, now I'm baffled- they voiced over and didn't think to properly use her surname. In a dubbed version? Ok. Weird. Or maybe not that weird, seeing the quaity of our translation, which was lame.
I had to watch in 3D too, but thanks gods we had 2 version. THough hunting down subbed was hard work.
I guess so nobody gets second-hand embarrassed, I guess. Though it could also be because of copyright issues, like they have to use male for, cos female isn't copyrighted and Americans are to clueless to get the difference or lack of that that difference :/
