Two things I hate

Dec 12, 2009 18:33

1. Fics that are decent until someone (like the main character) falls in love. Suddenly ~*~nothing else matters~*~, especially not characterization.

2. Fics that ship everyone (doubly if they all suddenly get together around the same time). Falling in love does not have a lemming effect, and if you're going for realism, I'm not sure making ( Read more... )

romance, shipping

This.

not to be waaah but this is exactly why I stopped writing my KH fics.

I'm not the world's GREATEST writer...but it started pissing me off when I saw the whole fandom divide off into either unrealistic slashfests or people determined to write het and violently declaiming slash on the whole.

It's fine to like Slash...but can realistic homosexuality get some representation?

I've heard from people that they don't want realism in their fics/pairings/whatever because apparently that's boring and reminds them too much of real life - in which case they are wondering why are they reading fanfic to begin with.

Escapism is a bitch.

Weird. I guess I sometimes like something off kilter/not realistic/romantic comedy but...I really find it just....WAY too hard to believe/total distraction when I get that in fic

Was I the only one who thought about Squall? *brick'd*

No, you're not alone. Even CLOUD was more realistic then Squall. It kinda breaks the realism when a character goes from extreme apathy to 'OMG MUST RESCUE PRINCESS' in speeds that would give Sonic, himself, whiplash.

You and me both brother/sister.

I said this about Sues like five minutes ago but the same applies to canon. Hell, I've seen SAIX suddenly develop a bleeding heart after being paired with someone. That made me go RAEG.

YES. AGREED.

I like my fluff, but sometimes, it's the plot that has me hooked. If all you're writing about is a High School AU with people hooking up with each other, oh come on. Originality plz. Seen it, read it, can we get something new?

This. Nothing drives me more up a wall then establishing a very weak string of Very Important plot BUT THEN! Mr. Right walks by and that's the only reason to tell a story anyway, amirite?

I agree, I mean, the thing is even an 'everyone is teh gay!" story can work if you make it even a little bit believable or least write it with a touch of self-irony. You know. EFFORT.

Gah, and the romance bit I could forgive - it's half the driving force behind fanficiton -the playing with pairings- but not when you dangle a plot like bait and then fail to deliver. Not cool.
