We've had a brief cold snap with a bit of rain (and snow in the Sierra Nevada), so I re-lit the wood stove for what I hope will be the last time this season. Having the wood stove hot on a Sunday morning, I took the opportunity to use it to cook part of a big breakfast.

Have you considered getting a electric "hot plate"? My parents got one when they moved into the in-law apartment without a stove (or oven).

Yes, we have, and we probably will someday. There's a related problem in that based on the kitchen circuits, I don't think I'd be able to use a hot plate, the microwave oven, and the toaster oven simultaneously.
