american politics

I am afraid for Obama. I think he'll likely make a supah fine president... but I also think some white supremacist jackass is going to attempt to assassinate him.

I've stayed out of US politics since leaving the country. When I realised that the conservatives in Canada are more liberal than the US democrats, I just gave up. roxy_fondue knows more about the ( Read more... )

If I were some machiavellian, behind the scenes puppetmaster, I'd gladly set up the presidential candidates from the Democratic side to be a woman and a black man. Then I'd gladly manipulate the one who is falling behind into not withdrawing from the race, in order to further dilute the vote.

This seems the only way right now for a third republican term. :P

But then, I'm a cynic.

I'm pulling for Obama, because Hilary has shown, in the last few weeks that she's nothing but a huckster.

man... just when I was feeling less morose about politics you have to bring cynicism into the picture. and cynicism is what runs american politics, it seems.

ugh.

and Hilary is a big disappointment. :\

Heheh sorry to be a pain in the neck but isn't this contradictory?

Either you're blind to the gender and then you choose based on qualifications but don't reject her on base that americans aren't ready or :

You're not blind to the gender and then you think americans aren't ready and then you ignore the qualifications.

I hope this makes sense. cheers :)

are you using 'you' in the 2nd person or the general 3rd person?

I do need a little help in parsing what you're getting at because it's not quite making sense to me. But I'm fairly certain that what I initially wrote seems contradictory. In a way, it is.

At this point in time, I think the American public would rather have a male leader than a female leader. They want change but not too much. I also think many Americans are pulling for Clinton because they want a female in Office. *I* don't want her in Office *because* she is female. Same goes for voting for Obama *because* he's black. I don't think that's right either. Personally, from what little I know and from what my gut is saying, I don't think Clinton's the right person for the job. I'd vote for Obama.

Does that help clarify?
