Original fiction meme - Day 14

14. How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us?

Google Street View, for those of my stories that are set in our world (well, as close to it a version as possible). Otherwise I just vaguely imagine some kind of map or place in my mind, and work out something with that.

I used to draw maps when I was in middle school, but my interest in doing that has dwindled with the years. My latest works (Was, Our Darker Purpose) didn't demand that I create any world per se: a map of London and of England & Scotland did the job. I admit I bullshit a lot regarding buildings, but I still try to base them off the RL stuff, if only for me to know what description to write (I suck at descriptions).

I've also shot a few photo references for a couple of scenes. When I went back to London in 2011, I checked whether the Byng Place scene in Was was accurate enough (turned out it wasn't, not if I didn't want Lou to mmake a dangerous fall XD). And I did the scene at Notre-Dame last week end, near Charlemagne's statue and the nearby promenade, because this is where Ring is soon going to find Marek dead. Well, for a few minutes, that is. Bonus points if those pictures allow me to draw the fight scene at some moment or other.
