Apparently tomorrow in California, the judge presiding over the Prop 8 trial in federal court will issue his ruling. Which will set the stage for the rest of the country concerning same sex marriage. I really dunno what to think, as allot of times while they are arguing the correct position, they do so in a really awful way that either backfires ( Read more... )

The defense's arguments in this case are the only arguments I have ever seen that would not be harmed by adding a "Your mom!" to the end of them. They were that shockingly bad.

No matter what the decision today, the trial was in depth, the opposition argument solid, and it is all in public record, including that the defense could not answer how SS marriage would harm opposite sex marriages. Appeals will be regardless. This is only the beginning, and this day will only get the ball rolling a little faster.

Yeah, I would just be amazed if the defense won. Their arguments were completely without merit. Half of the witnesses for the defense outright said that the defense was wrong! They will appeal, and unless they somehow manage to revise their arguments, they will lose again. Their appeal may well hinge on the fact that the judge in this case is gay, and therefore obviously incapable of rendering a consistent, logical and impartial decision (). Never mind that that argument will also fall flat on its face in the higher courts.

Unless they can come up with better arguments than we saw in this trial, they're just going to keep losing.

I haven't been able to read the publicized record of the trial so I might do that here soon. So my original perspective is related to other rulings that were on subjects unrelated but had my head shaking for the disappointing nature of the ruling.

I already had a sense that the defense was going to make a bad case, my concern is the plaintiffs arguments are gunna sloppy. Its real easy to get sloppy when the defense intentionally throws up a weak defense.
