I feel that my return to Taiwan has been something of a kick to the head in more ways than one. First of all, it's been a culture shock coming back here after a few days in Japan. The over-politeness experienced in Japan is in complete contrast to the general impoliteness and blatant stares one gets here in Hsinchu. And then there's the visual

Anyway, I'm pretty glad that the typhoons don't strike this part of the island much. The south and east really get battered each time (landslides, power outages and the like), not to mention China. I think the mountains in the centre of the island protect Hsinchu quite a fair bit. Still, I don't like the rain much and this was pretty heavy rain...figuratively and literally. :P
