Room 214 [afternoon/evening]

Mar 07, 2008 17:01

Pam, naturally, knew what today was, but she hadn't expected anyone else to remember. It wasn't like she went around telling people, 'Oh, by the by, Friday? I'm going to be seventeen!' or anything ( Read more... )

The quartet gathered around Pam's door with Jim taking the lead to start with.

"If I should stay,
I would only be in your way.
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you ev'ry step of the way."

It wasn't a very appropriate song for their relationship, but it was funny to get these guys to sing it. That was an appropriate trade, he felt.

Karal stepped forward, and it felt extremely weird to be singing this to Jim's girlfriend, but it was her birthday, and important, so he gave it his all.

He even put one hand over his heart.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You, my darling you. Hmmmmmmm.

John stepped forward, looking forlorn, hat lowered to his chest.

Bittersweet memories,
That is all I'm taking with me.
So, goodbye. Please, don't cry.
We both know I'm not what you, you need!

He stepped back, leaving a dramatic pause before the chorus.

Gavin stepped forward, still clearing his throat in preparation for what he was about to do.

He spread his arms wide, looked up to the heavens and closed his eyes, trying to sound both emotive and powerful.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you!

Gavin was pretty sure he'd just popped a few blood vessels but he skittered back into his place in the line.

Instrumental Solo. All right. Karal had no instruments, but he stepped forward anyway.

And started to hum.

And then switched to whistling.

And then to a strange noise, half-way between the two, that sounded a slight bit like a kazoo.

Then back to whistling for the finale...and, just as he reached the end, he inadvertently whinnied.

Eyes wide, he skittered back to hide behind Gavin.

John was really glad he got the normal, easyish parts. He gave Karal a look before moving to the front again.

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.

When he returned to his place, John was grinning, waiting for Gavin to break some more windows.

Gavin was beginning to wonder how he kept getting the freaking chorus. He cleared his throat as he stepped forward, trying to figure out how to top the previous chorus.

Without thinking, he dropped to one knee, hat over his heart, looking skyward or at a stain on the wall or something.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.

And since they were in Jim's girl's room, Gavin didn't want to sing it to her but he wanted to sing it to someone.

He bypassed Jim because, again, Jim's girl's room and John because he didn't want John to think he liked lap dances before getting to Karal. There, he put both hands on Karal's shoulders and sang loudly and shrilly to Karal.

I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I, I will always love you.

And then he went back to his place in line.

Jim stepped forward again and finished the song.

You, darling, I love you.
Ooh, I -- And that's just me, not these other guys who are helping me tell you this -- will always
I'll always love you.

"That's my birthday message to you."

Pam, as one might imagine, had spent the past few moments in disbelief.

Followed by amusement. Hence the giggles.

Followed by embarrassment. Hence the red face, which she was trying to cover up.

And really, there was only one way to sum up what she felt about the whole thing.

"...oh my god."

"No gremlin bites this time," Jim noted. "And we're just getting started."

"You're...just for my birthday?" Pam was grinning.

Some girls got flowers. Some got jewelry.

Pam got semi-public usage of costumes and song, in a most embarrassing and dorky way.

She couldn't have been more pleased.

"Just for your birthday," Jim said. "I hope you enjoy it."
