Monday musings

Sunday passed without incident. I spent the morning cleaning the floors of the main living room which is open plan with my dining area and the kitchen, so there is a LOT of wooden flooring to clean! All this exercising on the floor makes me see the dust under things, so it was time to move furniture and do a 'proper' clean of all the flooring ( Read more... )

Glad we're not the only ones that still buy DVDs :)

I love that Van Dyke swagger portrait. The way he's painted the satin and the shine on it is wonderful. The clothes are almost the stars of the portrait.

Yes we were loving all the satin and how cleverly he painted fabric. It was a really interesting lesson!

Well we didn't have a choice about buying the DVD version as there isn't any other version unless we wanted to buy each series on Amazon Prime for £12 each which worked out so much more expensive than the box set :)

I also doubt other that life would be like us, but I remember a chemistry lesson about atomic bonding when I was a young teen. The teacher explained that the reason life is based on carbon is because carbon has four available bonds, so is very useful as the basis of complex molecules. The equivalent atom on the next line of the periodic table is silicon, so I asked if on other planets there could be life based on that. I remember he paused and then speculated that it might be possible, but with silicon being more than double the mass of carbon, such life might resemble rocks to us. I thought that was a fascinating idea. I keep it in the back of my mind as a possible story scenario, but it would require a lot of chemistry revision which I have never got around to doing *g*

Yes I've heard the theory about silicon based life forms - I remember reading one speculation that it would be a better option than carbon on some planets with very high gravity as it would be more like a carapace. It's definitely unlikely that we'd find someone that looked like us (even if Star Trek and all the other shows suggested it LOL!)

I have "eureka" on my DVD-wish list. ... One day!

That swagger stance is amazing, isn't it? I remember seeing it at The National some years back. It was the combination of their poses, their looks and their clothes ... truly "stunning"

Yes, I like asking why, as well
