Sunday passed without incident. I spent the morning cleaning the floors of the main living room which is open plan with my dining area and the kitchen, so there is a LOT of wooden flooring to clean! All this exercising on the floor makes me see the dust under things, so it was time to move furniture and do a 'proper' clean of all the flooring rather than scooting around chasing the cat fur tumbleweeds with the hand held vaccum. The afternoon was spent watching episodes of 'Eureka' (or a Town Called Eureka as it was called in the UK). There's been some episodes on TV and we decided to buy the whole box set of DVDs (yes - DVDS!) as it's not streaming anywhere and it's an easy going sci fi series. We'd forgotten most of series 1 so it was a nice afternoon.
The Portraiture course online this morning was concentrating on the swagger portraits which were fabulous and full of very over dressed men in the 17th century on the whole (like
this one of Lord John Stuart and his Brother Lord Bernard Stuart which shows the swagger stance perfectly. The shoes made us laugh). The style was later called the 'mannered' style which was also descriptive. One of the later portraits in this style was by John Singer Sargent -
Madame X (very controversial at the time, but gorgeous!).
This afternoon was spent on work related struggling with websites and automated systems. It was a new aspect of the systems I'd not done before, so took me a while to work out. It was OK in the end. Later there will be Tai Chi, and I'm looking forward to that as it's a good workout for the body and the brain.
In the meantime I have questions
7. What have you always been curious about?
I'm pretty curious about everything to be honest - I always want to know 'why' and I probably irritate people because I ask why a lot. My Pilates teacher get's a bit annoyed as I really like to know what muscle groups an exercise is targetting as it helps me understand what I should be doing. It's hard to do that over Zoom so I've ended up buying myself an anatomy book that relates to Pilates moves so I can work it out for myself. I do like learning new stuff and working things out for myself. I remember it better if I've done that. I think that's why I'm enjoying the challenge of new computer stuff for the bellydance mentor - I was particularly pleased I'd put in a request to their help line about something and by the time they got back to me I'd worked it out for myself.
8. Do you believe there is life on other planets?
I thought that Mars had some evidence of life in the distant past, but I see it's only conjecture. I do think it would be very arrogant to think that we are the only planet in this vast universe that can produce JUST the right conditions for life to happen, so my answer would pretty much be a yes. However - is it life like us? I doubt it.
Day 350 since Lockdown 1. Day 60 of Tier 5 - full lockdown which has just started to ease. I have no idea what we are calling it now - but the schools and colleges went back to the classrooms today for all students. Everyone is keeping a close eye on how that affects the infection rates. Our local estimated rates are 359 which is 48 down from last week.
