Drudgery

Lately I've been reading a lot of fantasy and sci-fi and, ok, I know that this is the very definition of escapist literature but do you ever wish you could just step the hell out of this world sometimes, and into another one? Just to see what it's like in a different reality. Sure, reading from the protagonist's POV spoils the reader, we all want ( Read more... )

Every. Fucking. Day, bb. Every. Fucking. Day. But for different reasons than yours. I hope you're able to find a way to make your life more exciting--in a good way.

If I'm honest my actual life is, beyond work, probably as exciting as I can really handle when you get down to it. I could use some more career fulfillment but really I'm more of a hobbit type then a wizard.

Maybe what I'm actually thinking more on is the amazing intensity of experience that happens to protagonists. OK, there's also magic or intrigue or whatever is happening in a story, new worlds and creatures and abilities that are fascinating. But, because it's storytelling, there can also be a huge sense of purpose, or conviction, or hell, even fate, that drives everything forward. It's interesting to ponder what that would be like.

Ah! I see. Well, in that case, I do have that. My exciting health issues make my life a constant adventure and give me a strong sense of purpose. =D

Sometimes I pretend that I'm a protagonist in my life movie. In a way, we all are! But I understand.

I remember as a kid I used use the bus ride to and from school to narrate my life in that fashion.

Sure, yes. But honestly, Chinese medicine is its own alternate reality, so I'm usually just kinda happy.

I find I'm mostly reading YA fantasy and regency romances these days, and it's almost 1000000% because my regular life is so realistic that I just need a sweet delicious escape.
