Pink Lemonade and Black Cherry

Aug 12, 2007 16:02

I've been looking for a knitting pattern for a top/sweater and finally decided on Bad Penny from Knitty. Last weekend I kool aid dyed the yarn in pink lemonade and black cherry. It took me about 20 minutes to wind each hank into a lovely center pull ball.

All from Kool Aid! Here are some instructions and a color palette: http://www.knitty.com/issuefall02/FEATdyedwool.html

I don't know what I did wrong but my colors didn't come out fully saturated.

So neat! I don't think I knew you could knit?
That is one of those things I feel like I *should* learn how to do, but I am just not motivated to.

The pink lemonade looks like the same color as the knitty samples, but the dark cherry does look a little lighter. Very pretty together though! Can't wait to see the final product!

You didn't?! *gasp* I've only made really simple projects (scarves, fingerless gloves, camera case, simple slippers). The most complicated thing I made was the knit wig for Halloween.

My mom tried to teach me to knit when I was a kid, but it just didn't click. I preferred crochet. Now I think knitting is far superior :D

The dark cherry was certainly lighter, I used the amount of Kool Aid in the "recipe." I had a few extra packets of pink lemonade so I tossed those in and it was a bit more saturated.

Hmmm, maybe they just had a wool that took the dye better? Or their pictures were darker ;)

Well, I do remember seeing the knit wig, from your robot costume. I guess I either haven't been reading your journal long enough, or I just forgot! (I did know you could crochet, from the amigurumis)

I do think I would prefer knitting for something where it is hard to see & pick up the stiches (since they would stay on the needles). Working with the fabric strips was always difficult because of that.

wow, a new project. Looks pretty. That reminds me that I miss crocheting. I lind of lost touch of it through everyday life. I hope I'll get to it again. I'm sure U'll do fine. Looks good already.

Kool idea! In my spare time I think I might attempt to dye my own yarn. What type of yarn did you start with?

In order to do Kool Aid dye you have to use an animal fiber, I bought cheap wool from knitpicks.com.

They also sell proper dye, but the Kool Aid is so fun, and smells yummy :D You can find info on how to do it here: http://www.knitty.com/issuefall02/FEATdyedwool.html or here: http://www.thepiper.com/fiberart/koolaid/basic-howto.html
