in which Katta is hypocritical and silly

So, there was a poll about who's the top of Holmes and Watson, with comments having arguments such as Holmes being the bottom because he's tiny and adorable, or Watson being the bottom because he's blond and blue-eyed. And for a while, I hated fandom and growled THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS ( Read more... )

I don't know if you read katieforsythe, but I think you'll like her latest.

And what I would like to know right now is, would you prefer that I bend over the arm of this settee with one of Mrs. Hudson's embroidered pillows between my teeth, or take you into your room and bugger you senseless?

I happen to love trying to figure out if guys are a top/bottom rather than overall sexual preference. But to see it degrade into "Blue eyes!" is just ridiculous. There are so many intelligent ways to go about the discussion.

Like, does Holmes feel like he needs to be in control? Or does he need somebody else to take over and make him feel good? Then again, that's more of a dom/sub conversation rather than top/bottom. I guess they aren't entirely unrelated, but still.

I think trying to figure out sexual acts - both the top/bottom thing, the dom/sub thing and any other variations and preferences that may arise - is a valid part of fic writing and thinking, and that it can be great fun too. I've certainly written pairings where it's one top all the time, even if that's not my default. But when it gets down to who best fits which yaoi stereotype, I just get very growly about the whole thing. Possibly because the first time I heard such a thing, I was berated for letting Remus top Sirius, which was evidently wrong. *wry*

I just can't see Sirius not switching. Of course, my Sirius is kind of a wild child. Drugs, sex, and rock n roll.

I don't think I even wrote it as being a regular thing... though it's been so long, I can't remember.

If it helps, my answer would have been Watson. Holmes doesn't want to hog the leading role in their relationship, and Watson likes an outlet for some of his more dominating tendencies. :-p

Hee! Someone suggested Watson was the bottom because it would be a change from having to top Mary at home, and I was all, "AND WHO SAYS HE DOES?" The whole thing seems so silly. For all we know, they could be swinging from the chandeliers.
