What I did on my hols last year (Day 141 of Lockdown)

I did my Paracise class this morning then went out to get a birthday card for a friend at a local card shop, which is the first time I've been in a shop that wasn't a food shop or a pharmacy since March. I would have sent a card I already had but I thought the card shop might need the business. Apart from people wearing masks our local shopping ( Read more... )

I must have been to Chatsworth, but I honestly can't remember it at all so maybe we haven't visited LOL! I must add it to the list as that painted ceiling rivals the one at Greenwich.

Spotty dog!!! LOL! I do remember the Wooden Tops - black and white nostalgia.

I felt very nostalgic when I saw Spotty Dog.

The painted ceiling in the main hall is amazing and there are several others. Well worth a visit. For some reason or another I had never really been to Derbyshire before apart from passing through on the motorway but we visited some lovely places and hope we can go back eventually.

Thanks. It's a lovely place and I'm not sure my photos really do it justice.

One of the most interesting things about Chatsworth was the mix of very old treasures and much newer works of art. The Devonshires really are into modern art in a big way and I liked the way that they are able to use it in their own house in a way a property run by the National Trust couldn't do. The chairs in the dining room were very modern too and looked fabulous against a formally set table.

Chatsworth is well worth a visit and you need a full day!

I did love Chatsworth so much. I remembered the Painted hall because it was just so intense.

I've been to Hardwick Hall and Haddon Hall but not the other two. Looking forward to seeing them.

The Painted Hall was amazing. Of the other two places we visited Bolsover Castle was smaller and if I had to skip one it would be that though it was interesting. There is something at Kedleston that you would love. Have a look here.

Oh, I'd heard of the Peacock dress before. I'll definitely have to see that.

I took some photos but they don't do it justice. It must have looked amazing when Mary Curzon wore it.
