my gluten-free life (and other updates)

Construction is almost done at Wally World, yay. October third is out Super-Center grand opening and I'm kind of thrilled that I'll have my quiet, organized store back soon. I'll probably be transferring off the front end once the new departments open (a few of them pay better) and I'm approaching my 2-year mark there. My transitional job is ( Read more... )

Hey, glad to hear you're doing pretty well, feeling pretty good -- except for gluten withdrawal, but that will pass. Good for you to be doing it. I think a lot of us (like all O blood types are far more 'sensitive' to gluten than we realize -- it's literally like a kind of poison to us. As are most dairy products. Which, bizarrely, is why we often crave them. My sister has fibromyalgia and has MUCH less pain when she's gluten free. I know I have less pain with the arthritis, better mobility and more energy when I ruthlessly cut gluten products from my diet. Basically, I eat plain food now, salad stuff, veg and fish or chicken.

The Sherlock bracelet sounds really cool!

The withdrawal will pass. I'm in the middle of a love-affair with chex cereal and gluten-free pasta tastes a little less like al dente cardboard every time I have it, lol. If going off of gluten does half as much for me as it did for my sister, though, it'll be well worth the side effects now. The more I read about gluten (and how much it's changed in the last few thousand years), the more I wonder if it's really all that good for ANYONE. Would certainly go a long way towards explaining many of North America and Europe's health problems...

The bracelet will be fun. I'm really excited for it :)

Good for quiet and organisation. :-)

I'm not sure whether I'll have a TV come September, either - but, honestly, online seems the way to go. I can live without seeing new Who the second it premieres ('though it and Young Drac will be available on the BBC website), and. It'll be worth not having to pay more for a TV licence?

Those beads are gorgey and seconding a look at the Sherlock bracelet once it's done. Sounds like something very cool & unique.

Good luck with going gluten free. S'not something I really know much about - apart from you can get bread which tastes a bit funny, but is free from gluten. Lactose free, yes :P

oh, man, the remodel has been a nightmare. will eventually post photos of all the mess and fuss, probably along with a loooooong narrative about it, lol. But it'll be wonderful when it's all over :)

TV seems increasingly unnecessary when most stations have their programs on their websites already (and that's before you get into... other means of watching your shows, lol). It's not cheap, either, so it made sense to cut it out when I started to feel a budget strain.

I'll definitely post pics of the bracelet when it's done (and anything else I do as well)

oh, man, it's been less than a week and I'm honestly feeling like Sherlock coming down off cigarettes (or whatever he was REALLY detoxing from in Hound, lol). "I want some, get me some!" indeed. I'd murder for shredded wheat right now *wonders what that says* Sounds like something Morairty would do on a whim...

PS, the muses have been weird again:

PPS, don't suppose I could tempt you to beta a short fic in a week or so here? *hugs*

Like moving house? Cruddy while the dust's flying and you can't find a thing, but worth it in the end *hugs*

*nods* Yeah. I mean, I did enjoy flopping in front of Scrubs and TBBT last winter but, you know, it's not vital. DW, TW and YD (fourth season confirmed - score!) are the only shows I'm really into keeping up with, so TV's not vital for a wee budget.

Yeah, no. There are things worth murdering for more than shredded wheat :P Patience and hugs and again, 'twill be worth it in the long run?

The vid fits SO well (in a very unusual way), and send the fic over whenever you're ready :-)

Love the pic of the multi-colored bead strands. Just so cheerful.

My mom just bought a roku to use with Netflix and is quite pleased with it. Although I use another device to get Netflix, the only way I get TV is through Netflix and my rabbit ears to pick up the local stations. Really happy paying the very low cost for Netflix rather than the high cost of cable or satellite. That said, I do not watch much TV. :)

I eat low carb to control my diabetes. If I keep my carb count down to 15 grams / meal or snack, my blood sugar stays within the normal range. Like you, the diet causes me to read the labels. I'm surprised how often glucose is added to things in which one wouldn't expect it.
