Finished the new Dresden Files book last night (okay, so it was 0600 this morning; don't judge, the final battle was insane and I couldn't not read the rest at that point). Spoilers for pretty much the whole series from here forward. Don't click if you haven't read it yet.

turn to face the strange... )

Ok, not going to read the whole post until I've listened to my audiobook version. Good to know it won't disappoint!

It won't disappoint, but you may want to scream for parts of it so maybe not the best thing to listen to in public places ;p

I totally think the voice at the end is Mab or possibly Lea ( ... )

What premise or synopsis did you read?I totally forget where I saw it but it was insanely derisive and "all good authors roll over eventually" ... also, now that I've read the book, ridiculously over-generalized and almost inaccurate the way is was representing things. it mentions, of course, the child he never knew he had (which is kinda trope-y on its own) and then was going on about shit like "the people he should be able to rely on not being there when he needs them" (which I was totally taking to mean that, for some reason, Molly, Murphy, et al were flaking out on him or something because i think Harry knows better by now than relying on the Council and he NEVER trusted Martin) ... it really made the thing read more like a soap-opera than a real Dresden Files novel which is why I was leery. now i'm starting to think the author was either on crack or being paid to write something that'd stir up shit ( ... )

havent heard anything about "aftermath", no don't tell me ;)

that's actually possible. Or the guy is a just a hater because Butcher, while not the most brilliant author ever in the history of the world, is *fun*.

but the truth of the matter is negative reviews sell more ad space and in an era where ad space is *everything* even more than I was a year of 5 years ago, well....

I mean we were looking at metacritic trends (as we frequently do) there are games on there that debuted 5-6 years ago that were 80s and 90s that wouldn't rate a 60 or a 70 by todays cutthroat "journalists" and I use that term loosely because we *knows* some of them play games for *maybe* 2 hours before writing an article.

*keeps her trap shut*

the guy made a point of praising Butcher's earlier work which is why I was so worried. annoys me no end. it's sad that we've got this increasing trend towards negativity. I've never been of the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" school, but there comes a point where complaining benefits no one anything (especially in a world where the Twilight "Saga" is getting rave reviews) *sends Druitt to deal with the issue decisively*
