AN: Finally I can post this! I am so unbelievably excited to be posting this at last. This idea hit me in a day dream and I just went crazy with ideas. Ask my personal sounding boards. I was practically incoherent when rattling things off to them about this thing. It looks as though it is going to turn into something epic. I plan to update once a week. We will see how my patience lasts and if I can hold out that long. Please let me know what you all think! I = comment whore! Special thanks to my beta! Couldn't have this sound quite so coherent with out you!
From the Soul to the Song
Verse One
“10 minutes to show time!” the young woman carrying a clipboard announced as she peeked her head into Super Junior’s dressing room. Leeteuk nodded in response before glancing to the corner where Kangin was snoozing.
“Someone wake Kangin up please,” he ordered. The hair stylist offered him a glare in the mirror as he had tried to shift to do so himself. In response to his words Sungmin, Eunhyuk, and Donghae exchanged looks and immediately began an intense game of rock, paper, scissors to determine who would get the honor.
Heechul rolled his eyes at the trio and didn’t wait for them to finish. Instead he made his way to Kangin’s corner of the room and offered the man a rather sharp kick to the leg. Kangin shook awake with a startled noise to see Heechul smirking over him, not the first thing anyone wants to see when they wake up.
“What?” he grumbled.
“Super Show II starts in ten minutes. I figured you might want to attend since you do have a few signing parts and all,” Heechul told him flippantly. Kangin let out a grunt and moved to lift himself off of the floor. “Need a hand old man?” Heechul joked.
“Yeah, give me a minute and I’ll give you a hand rearranging that pretty face of yours,” Kangin grumbled, only half of the threat in his voice.
“Heechul didn’t mean anything by it,” Siwon said softly in attempts to keep anything serious from breaking out. “Did you Heechul?”
Heechul, however, was no longer listening. “Whatever,” he muttered under his breath before wrapping slender fingers around Siwon’s wrist and tugging. Well used to the man’s behavior by now, Siwon simply offered Kangin a look and followed without a protest. He was tugged on a path straight toward Hankyung. When the Chinese man saw their approach he raised a brow in question, to which Siwon offered an unknowing shrug of his shoulders in response. Once they reached Hankyung, Heechul grabbed his hand as well and tugged them both with him towards the door.
“Heechul, where are you going? Our show starts in eight minutes,” Leeteuk questioned.
“Bathroom,” Heechul responded shortly.
Across the room Donghae snickered. “What are you, a girl that needs her escort to go to the bathroom?”
Heechul smirked at him over his shoulder, never missing a beat as he released Hankyung’s wrist to open the door before grasping it once more, “Wouldn’t you like to know.” He pulled the two out of the room leaving the chuckling group of members behind.
Only once Siwon had pulled the door shut and they were several steps down the hall, did Heechul let go of their wrists. Siwon exchanged a confused look with Hankyung. “Heechul, the bathroom is the other way,” Hankyung pointed out.
“I know. Dark One,” was all Heechul said. At his words Hankyung and Siwon visibly changed. Hankyung shifted half a step in front of Heechul as they moved while Siwon moved beside him and slipped his hand into Heechul’s. He threaded their fingers together and tightened them briefly but said nothing.
Siwon was certain that if anyone saw the trio walking down the hall they would simply think that they were men walking with a purpose. They were, but not a purpose that anyone besides a select few knew.
Together the trio rounded the corner and found what they had been looking for. The normal human eye would have missed the nearly insubstantial humanoid black wisp at the other end of the hallway. A normal human would have kept walking like nothing was wrong. A normal human would have lost their song and in turn, their soul to the Dark Ones. Thankfully they were not normal humans.
Hankyung moved two more steps in front of Heechul and flexed his fingers lightly, and then he and Siwon began to sing. The words that they sang were not important; in fact they were nearly inaudible and barely understandable. Heechul however, could hear the words that weren’t being sang. He could feel the true power flowing from their song.
Power washed over Heechul and threaded itself around him. If asked, Heechul would never be able to truly describe the feeling of it. It was pure energy demanding to be used, yet at the same time it was so distinctly Siwon and Hankyung that he had no doubts that the energy was coming from them.
After a few bars their voice fell silent, but their souls continued to sing. Now that Heechul had established a connection through their words, he could hear their personal songs, feel their personal power, power that they were creating like living breathing generators. Heechul took a deep breath and began to weave.
Carefully, he pulled some of the power that had wrapped itself around him and began to give it shape. It only took half a second to weave armguards into existence on both Siwon and Hankyung, and a moment more to arm them.
Since they were expecting the arrival of their weapons, both closed their hand around the hilts of their swords without pause. Hankyung’s was an elegant version of a broadsword. Etched into the blade were markings finished in gold. Hankyung had once asked Heechul what they were and he had simply shrugged. The hilt was fairly ornate, but not in any way that would hinder his grip. It was done in shades of gold and wrapped with leather dyed red. At the very end was a deep red stone that Hankyung had never taken time to identify. Siwon’s sword was nearly exactly the same as Hankyung’s. However at the end of his sword was set a fiery orange gem.
The moment their hands closed around their swords they moved into action. Hankyung took the lead, as he normally did with Siwon not far behind. From the right, the Chinese man lunged at the creature bringing his weapon to bear. He didn’t expect it to connect as fully as he hoped but he was even more surprised when the creature neatly darted out of the way of the blade. Siwon was there was there waiting, and immediately swung his own sword at the creature. Once again it darted out of the way of his blade and then ducked to avoid Hankyung’s. Together the men began to weave the shinning blades in well practiced motions.
At first it seemed as though they would have no luck in catching the creature off guard and wounding it. It was flitting here and there spending most of its time dodging metal. The few return swipes it aimed at them were, for the most part, dodged or blocked entirely.
Suddenly Siwon jumped back and back peddled the few steps to Heechul’s side. Heechul placed his hand on the back of his neck and let the spell he had been weaving flow from him into Siwon. The moment he was finished Siwon sprang back into the fray moving nearly twice as fast as he had previously. It only took two more swings before Siwon’s sword sliced the Dark One in half. The two halves separated slowly and then dissolved into nothing.
Although it had taken little more than a few minutes it was some of the most enjoyable minutes they had had recently. With grins on their faces Hankyung and Siwon trotted over to Heechul.
“I thought I was going to have to step in and finish him for you if you played any longer,” Heechul griped in an irritated tone, although there was a look in his eyes revealing that he was anything but.
“Well if you had just sent the boosting spell to one of us as soon as you weaved it after the Dark One dodged the first swing, instead of making Siwon come back to get it, we would have been done faster,” Hankyung replied.
“Naw it was fun, and it’s good to cause Leeteuk to panic every once in a while.”
Siwon’s eyes suddenly widened. “Leeteuk! The concert! We have to go!”
Heechul heaved a put-out sigh and waved his hand in dismissal. Both Hankyung’s and Siwon’s armor and weapons disappeared in a small glimmer of light.
“I don’t know why you do that,” Hankyung said shaking his head. “You don’t need motions.”
“No but it makes it fun for me,” Heechul smirked at the man for a moment and then scowled. He closed the few steps between them and took a hold of Hankyung’s arm rather forcefully. “One little Dark One and you still get hurt,” he snarled.
The Chinese man glanced down at his own arm and saw a slash mark across his bicep that he hadn’t even felt. The wound must not have been too deep because it was only oozing blood at a snail’s pace. Heechul grumbled to himself as he lifted his free hand and held in over the area. Carefully he pulled the power that was still flowing into him and began to bend it to his will. First he knitted the superficial wound together. Once the skin was closed he removed the blood from both the area and the fabric it had soaked into. Then he knitted the fabric of both Hankyung’s under shirt and suit back together. When he was finished it looked as though it had never happened.
Hankyung snaked his arm around Heechul’s waist to half support the man as he leaned forward and pressed their foreheads together. “I’m sorry Heechul. You’re not a healer.”
“You have that right,” he grumbled. Even though he partially hated himself for the show of weakness, he let his body sink into Hankyung’s much appreciated hold.
“Uh guys. Concert, we need to go,” Siwon said softly.
Heechul groaned and took a deep breath before pulling away from Hankyung’s hold. He closed his eyes and felt for the power still flowing from the pair. With another sigh he severed their connection, bundling the last bit of power still wrapped around him and storing it within his necklace so it didn’t go to waste. Heechul had once told them that when he did that if felt like crawling out of a warm comfortable bed straight into a shower where the water heater wasn’t working. Not exactly painful but close enough. If he had his way he would be connected to them all of the time, but that would be too distracting not to mention overloading.
They both knew to give Heechul a moment to adjust to feeling just himself again, before trying to go anywhere. When he started to move they fell into step with him, Hankyung with a hand at the small of his back and Siwon with an arm around his shoulders.
It only took them a few moments to backtrack to their dressing room where they found Leeteuk in a state of borderline break down. “Where have you been! We have to go on in thirty seconds!” he scolded as workers pressed microphones into their hands.
“Bathroom,” Heechul said with a shrug.
“That was the longest -“ Leeteuk started lecturing and he more than likely continued but Heechul was no longer listening.
Instead he heard a soft voice speak directly into his mind. “It’s time.”
“You might want to close your eyes,” Heechul said offhandedly doing just that.
“What?” Leeteuk asked in confused tone. He had a moment to look strangely at Hankyung and Siwon as they did the same, before their dressing room blurred and disappeared.
