Trinity
He wishes he could ease her pain. Not even the morpha does that anymore.
She longs for peace, but doesn’t tell him.
“I want to feel your skin next to mine,” she says.
Nothing keeps her warm anymore. Except him.
She hasn’t left his bed for days. He remembers a time that’s all he wanted-her in his bed for days. He never imagined this.
He strips and carefully crawls under the blankets behind her.
He doesn’t need a map. His fingers travel her familiar curves and valleys, tracing feather soft patterns on her skin.
“What do you think of when I say elbow?” He touches the bony prominence at the tip of hers.
She tries to laugh. It hurts. “Macaroni,” she manages. “And you when I say it?”
He pauses.
“Trinity.”
Slowly, she turns her head; meets his gaze.
“Humerus. Radius. Ulna.”
Too much time spent in Life Station, he recites from Gray’s Anatomy.
“Right here.” His fingertip slides to the sensitive inside area.
Her breath hitches. She shivers, not from cold; from his caress.
“I don’t remember the last time…” A tear slides down her cheek.
“I do,” he tells her, gently kissing the wetness away. “Just now.”
