We really appreciated your warning about the zoo! (If we forgot to say that, gomen!) I like zoos but I'm so used to them being decent these days -- you'll maybe get a corner somewhere that still looks like it's from 1969, but in general they have all upgraded -- that this would have shocked me.
No, none whatsoever. It does look a bit familiar, like I've seen the type of tree-grooming that brings these results before, but even then I probably didn't know what the thing was called. I'm very useless with plants... :-)
I have seen photos of similar trees before. I believe it is a species of Adansonia [baobab] native to Africa. A common name for it is "bottle tree". Obviously, the trunk stores water for the tree.
Carsten meinte irgendwann im Zoo, dass er sich dunkel erinnert, irgendwo mal gelesen zu haben, dass die Gehege extrem klein sind. Ich hatte mich nicht weiter informiert und habe mich an meinen Erfahrungen mit dem Zoo in Schwerin und Hannover orientiert, wo schon seit mind. 10 Jahren die Gehege erweitert werden und die Tiere Platz haben.
In Ueno müssten sie halt mind 2/3 der Tiere abgeben, und den vorhandenen Platz besser nutzen. Ich habe noch Fläche gesehen, die sich sinnvoller nutzen ließen. Potential ist da. Auch mit weniger Tieren könnte der Zoo noch schön sein.
Wenn ich mir die Bilder von Google so ansehe... ja, könnte passen. Aber der ist doch so viel größer als unserer hier im Wohnzimmer ^^;;; (und die Blätter fehlen, aber sonst scheint es zu stimmen *g*)
ahh, that's sad that the zoo wasn't all that great :/ luin_lote and i had talked about going there to see the pandas but it doesn't sound like it would be worth it if pandas are in hiding!
Sadly, not @zoo The habitat for the pandas isn't that big to start with and the people are standing in line there (think Disneyland) to see them. The zoo is advertising the pandas like mad, which is probably why there are sooo many people staring at the poor ones -.-;;;
