Things I can't believe:

- Germany having won that game.

- Germany having actually reached the round of 16. OMG.... they were... I don't even feel like looking for the right words. Not totally bad, and Ghana was rather good, but... duh... it was 'exciting' in a not necessarily good way.
EdiT: Got the expression: not convincing.

- Australia actually beating Serbia this ( Read more... )

not happy, team: england, football, nationalmannschaft

I more listened to the Germany match than I watched it. But from that I share your opinion - convincing is different. And it's such a shame for Vidic Serbia.

I did watch the England game, though, and you are so right. I was glad to have Defoe on the pitch in the first place as Hesky did not convince me at all. But taking him and Wayne off? Totally killed the momentum. I have to say, for now Capello with his starting 11 and his substitutions for me plays a huge role in England's less than stellar performances.

Also, when Torres as also taking off early, Kliensmann said that he didn't think this was a good idea because he looked close to scoring and - to paraphrase now - we all know how sensitive those strikers all. It's all about building confidence. Wish Capello had listened.

Re: public viewing. I have decided that it's fun as long as I'm not too passionate about either team playing. Because if somebody would start talking trash about Portugal - no matter how crappy that might have played - there would have been blood.

... after the groups had been set, I thought Germany and Serbia would clearly be the ones to make it... hm. Poor Vida. Again.

Thank you very much indeed! And I agree on Heskey's performance. Defoe did so much better.

I must say I just don't understand Capello's motivation/plan/whatever you wish to call it all :/
Neither do I have the impression that he'd have much of a connection with the players anymore... thus building confidence might be quite not what he's spending his time thinking about... but where taking off strikers that actually really look like they're close to scoring and want to score are concerned, I completely agree. Wayne won't get back into shape that way. And they'll keep blaming him.

I don't get those people who praise these substitutions, honestly I don't, because there are those. I mean surely they must see these effects, no?!

as long as I'm not too passionate about either team playingThat's the important thing! I don't think I could take any badmouthing of my teams/players. I was so annoyed with some people ( ... )

I thought so, too. And yes, poor Vida!

Completely agree on Capello. He seems to be out of loop somehow. Such bad timing for that. And no, Wayne won't get back in shape by being on the bench and having his confidence thrashed. Dude.

I was so annoyed with some people today already.
I can imagine. So yes. No public viewing when the boys are playing. In everybody's interest. ;)

If that's true, then fine. But I haven't read anything of that on any sports site yet, nor did they say anything on TV. I didn't see anything during the game, and he wasn't limping. Dunno. I hardly believe anything the daily mail says to be honest, sorry :) it's like believing in what the sun writes. they're just making up scandals.

Besides, people often feel like they need to justify things afterwards, and so of course they will come up with some explanation better than none.

Because Wayne was taken off while Slovenia could still have equalised. and that would have been it. No more rounds for England. No matter what the reason, that was not the right time to stop playing forward.

He suffers because of the fact that he hasn't scored yet. And taking the chance to score from him when he was on his way to score and really needing it is simply a stupid and bad move from Capello. This does not 'build confidence'.
Instead the papers and the public will keep blaming Wayne for lack of a good performance, just as they have after the last games. It's ridiculous.

Blah, the Mirror's just the same, lol, and they have the same article twice in the news-section + one of the big headlines "Darkness hlats marathon men" - they have trouble writing "halts"... :/ lol.

I can't find the article you mean at the moment, I'll try tomorrow as it's past 2am now.

I think the idea behind substituting Wayne early was to protect him, because he was carrying a slight knock... They didn't want to risk aggravating his problem and therefore make him unplayable in the next game.
