Spoiler Zone - The Night that SPOOKS "Jumped the Shark" w/Lucas - last Mon. in ep #907

Nov 05, 2010 15:18

I know that the phrase "Jumped The Shark" is used far too often by people in referencing TV shows.  People who are often angry or snarky, and rushing to judgement. Because of this, I don't really like the phrase.  But enough is enough.

I now truly believe that that is EXACTLY what SPOOKS/ MI-5 did in Mon. night's penultimate 9th series/season- ( Read more... )

Thank you. If I remotely thought that there was some planning involved on the part of TPTB, other than "keeping the show on the map" for foreign sales distribution...

This is a promo interview that was made several months ago during filming, and was kept on ice (under embargo) until now, so of course RA didn't then know yet about the Hobbit, or indeed about that 2nd season of Strike Back he may or may not be in. The whole Mail piece has got that stale feel about it.

I know. It's stale. But the interesting thing is that if they interviewed him on his final day/scene of shooting, his answers would have been character-appropriate at that moment, for what we're seeing now. That was really what I meant...when he references Lucas as "wicked." Perhaps he had little to go on...or, he let the producers know that he wanted out, but to please leave the door open - and this is what they came up with.

I think the Hobbit casting discussions may have been in the works for some time...and even known way back then. In an earlier interview, probably done around the same time, he mentions having an out-of-body experience while having a lifecast/mold done of his face. When has RA ever done anything which required a lifecast before? Just a thought. He does let tidbits drop on occasion.

I must ask you all, if you loathe this series so much, why have you continued to watch it? I'm tired of the complaints.

"You all?" I don't loathe the series. Not at all. Just the opposite. (And I have professionally promoted and advocated for it.) I am frustrated and diappointed with the seeming lack of care that is being given to it. THAT is my complaint, especially as I know it can do, and be, so much better, as it's has been in the past.

Perhaps I am disappointed as I had hopes for this season, and hope springs eternal. I was going along with the "Lucas is not as he seems" and was okay with that too. But the other night, they took it too far. One step too far.

On a separate note, I really enjoy your fics. I hope we can agree to disagree.

I can see where you're coming from. I know it can do better, but in comparison to say, S6, I don't think this is really bad at all.

I do agree that the last reveal by Vaughn was going too far though. It didn't really seem all that necessary, and I liked the story Lucas spun for Harry more. Alas...

We can agree to disagree, and thanks for the fic mention. :D

LOVE your icon! ;-) Thanks for the support. I think this season has had some interesting elements - often (for me) involving Nicola Walker as she's just so very good, but "missed opportunities" do get to me. (Not as much as Strike Back eps 3/4 however, which, after yelling at the TV, I mentally script-doctored, then laid out in a comment. ;-) Hey, it made *me* feel better.)

The acting is really superb, especially when one considers that so much of what they have to do - by their own admission - is on the fly, with fast script changes, etc. Bravo, all of them!

I think Armitage has been especially brilliant as well, as he's had to let "John" bleed through, in small ways, at times...which was wonderful to watch! But the final writer-created reveal just doesn't make sense, psychologically, given Lucas' behaviour of the past 15 (i.e. 2 1/2) years. Maybe we'll find out more next week. But I'm worried that we won't.

Ruth (always my favourite, but...): enters Harry's office, gives gnomic utterance, looks pained, leaves.

Cruel, but fair. I too have loved Ruth from the start, but I'm fed up with her limitless knowledge of everything and her bountiful forbearance. The show caught up with our love for her, too late, and then they over-egged the pudding as it to compensate.
