Spoiler Zone - The Night that SPOOKS "Jumped the Shark" w/Lucas - last Mon. in ep #907

Nov 05, 2010 15:18

I know that the phrase "Jumped The Shark" is used far too often by people in referencing TV shows.  People who are often angry or snarky, and rushing to judgement. Because of this, I don't really like the phrase.  But enough is enough.

I now truly believe that that is EXACTLY what SPOOKS/ MI-5 did in Mon. night's penultimate 9th series/season- ( Read more... )

I watched the first six seasons of Spooks long before Richard joined it and I shall carry on watching after he has left, but at the moment I am angry at the writers. They made this character a very moral one, who seemed loyal to Queen and country...

And in regards to that Daily Mail interview, Alicat made a very interesting comment about RA's comments on Sophia Myles, which really highlights the type of paper that the Daily Mail is.. Sophia Myles is in a relationship and engaged to someone else.

Three seasons for Lucas is not a bad run, the longest serving member of section nine has to be Adam Carter. If the story plays out how it seems to be heading right now, then maybe on Monday I will be less of a happy bunny.

I don't like Maya, she has zero chemistry with RA. The only female love interest that I ever believed he really cared about was Elizabeta.

With you on Elizabeta; it was obvious there was angst and longing there. Maya is appallingly boring.

I didn't know about Sophia Myles, but it figures when it comes to the Mail - the reporter had to sex up the piece, which is not very good, and he took a jokey remark and spun it as much as possible. Or someone at the subs desk did it for him, poor guy - I've had my copy twisted out of recognition by the Mail more than once; it's cost me contacts.

Yup, I've agreed with you re Maya AND the Mail. Pretty run-of-the-mill piece. Their lack of journalistic know-how, let alone integrity, has cost you contacts? Yikes! No recourse, I suppose? What fools!

God yes, in regards to Maya. I am sure they could have used a shop dummy and with more effect. ;)

Ooooh, Karen, I'm right there with you! Someone had to say it, and I'm so glad you did.

Thank you so much, but I really wish that I didn't have to say it at all. I would have been much happier, bouncing on my couch in anticipation of an exciting, nail-biting season finale. Which, inadvertently, we all may get after all...

I'm also sorry it had to be said. Let's hope we do indeed get an exciting, nail-biting finale. I would love nothing better.

I haven't seen all the eps yet but I've already found out what's going on, which I don't mind. I do mind that they seem to twist around the Lucas' character, though! A friend of mine adores Lucas above all rA characters and she's furious about all "that 'John' nonsense". It's good that it awakes feelings and Spook WAS a fantasic series! Meanwhile: 3 seasons for RA isn't bad! But why destroy the character?

Again, writers...

Why couldn't they hook him up with Beth instead? I loved their banter in 9x01! It's easy to see that Sophie Myles is the kind of woman RA appreciates, not the ordinary, model like bimbo. She's beautiful with curves and that glimpse in her eye! A fact that makes me adore the man even more! ;-)

Hej min ven! I agree - 3 seasons on a series is a good run. I'm not bothered by ALL the "John nonsense," just the last Vaughn reveal, which just doesn't jibe - not only with 2 seasons of canon (even in Spy-world) - but basic human psychology. From what we've been shown, they can't even claim he is utterly psychotic -OR- schizophrenic, so it's...pretty grating. And flings one right out of the "reality of the show," as one's suspension of disbelief can only be suspended so far, you know? Surprise us sure, we love that. But don't cross the line into utter implausibility.

I'm with you Karen747: I swallowed everything till the 9.7 reveal about how he had intentionally blown up the embassy. Did not make sense at all. His original story to Harry (that turned out to be a lie) made far more sense.

Also, it probably would have been better if Elizabeta had come back and been the catalyst alongside Vaughn for change, rather than Maya; who lets face it, turned out to be a plot device rather than a character.

I was out Monday night, so I had to avoid this till now. I...can't even.

If Lucas/John is blown up/deep fried/garotted, etc. at the end of this series, I won't care. NO-ONE FUCKS WITH MY RUTH!

I know. Right there with you.

Well, this may be a serious nail-biter, that's for sure! YAY! Hope so! I'm sure well get excellent performances from both of them, with some serious "Whoa!"-moments, inspiring much telly-yelling. ;-) And wouldn't it be great if Malcolm had something to do? Maybe even interact with Tariq?
