Spoiler Zone - The Night that SPOOKS "Jumped the Shark" w/Lucas - last Mon. in ep #907

I know that the phrase "Jumped The Shark" is used far too often by people in referencing TV shows.  People who are often angry or snarky, and rushing to judgement. Because of this, I don't really like the phrase.  But enough is enough.

I now truly believe that that is EXACTLY what SPOOKS/ MI-5 did in Mon. night's penultimate 9th series/season- ( Read more... )

I watched the first six seasons of Spooks long before Richard joined it and I shall carry on watching after he has left, but at the moment I am angry at the writers. They made this character a very moral one, who seemed loyal to Queen and country...

And in regards to that Daily Mail interview, Alicat made a very interesting comment about RA's comments on Sophia Myles, which really highlights the type of paper that the Daily Mail is.. Sophia Myles is in a relationship and engaged to someone else.

Three seasons for Lucas is not a bad run, the longest serving member of section nine has to be Adam Carter. If the story plays out how it seems to be heading right now, then maybe on Monday I will be less of a happy bunny.

I don't like Maya, she has zero chemistry with RA. The only female love interest that I ever believed he really cared about was Elizabeta.

With you on Elizabeta; it was obvious there was angst and longing there. Maya is appallingly boring.

I didn't know about Sophia Myles, but it figures when it comes to the Mail - the reporter had to sex up the piece, which is not very good, and he took a jokey remark and spun it as much as possible. Or someone at the subs desk did it for him, poor guy - I've had my copy twisted out of recognition by the Mail more than once; it's cost me contacts.

Yup, I've agreed with you re Maya AND the Mail. Pretty run-of-the-mill piece. Their lack of journalistic know-how, let alone integrity, has cost you contacts? Yikes! No recourse, I suppose? What fools!

God yes, in regards to Maya. I am sure they could have used a shop dummy and with more effect. ;)

If they were going to make her a doctor, you'd think that maybe there'd be just one throwaway hospital scene to show her competence, which would have...oh wait. I guess that was the John-curtain-examining-room scene, wasn't it. Sigh.

Yes, I agree, there was no real character development for her at all.

Hi ya! Not surprised you're angry at the writers, spikesbint.

I had high hopes for Maya in her first two eps, and then....nothing. Sigh. Yes, re: Elizabeta. They really could have brought HER back as a motivation-for-Lucas'-behaviour this series. THAT would have been cool and WORKED...given a different story.

Re: The Daily Mail & Sophia Myles - yeah, it seems par for the course. And, as it was done several months ago, was she engaged at the time? Not that it matters, as it came off as a joke, and Richard's no fool. He knows he has to give them something, and can't talk about the actual show at that point, so makes a joke about a cute blonde. Whatevs. I like her but she's completely under-utilized here.

Yes, Monday (or for me Tuesday) should be interesting.
