2) I spend upwards of 12 hours of my day sitting at work staring at a computer screen and not be allowed to do anything else. The internet is a god-send.

2) 12 hours? I couldn't do it. I'd never be able to spend 12 hours in front of a screen at work and then go home and do it some more. Another example? The guy who handles our portfolios complains about his Blackberry. He hates the fact that he needs it for his job. He feels like he rarely gets the chance to unplug.
What's worse is that I've even encountered people who have the ability to post from anywhere thanks to 4G networks and don't even need it. These are the true social networking addicts.

2) Required for the job. Sometimes my shifts are 10, sometimes 12. Leaving the desk not encouraged. Reading a book verboten because an exec might see it. I finish the day's work in about 4-5 hours and then, well...*shrugs* I need my paycheck. It's hourly.
I'm with you on the Blackberry. I don't have one, but if I ever get promoted higher, I won't have a choice. I'll be salaried and thus ineligible for overtime compensation. And I will get those calls at 3AM asking me to log into the system and generate a report. No thanks.

And goddamn right the Internet is a distraction. If it wasn't here, I'd spend half my day staring at the ceiling tiles, trying not to go insane from boredom.
