Confirmed cases of the Omicron variant are doubling every two days. At this rate it will be the leading variant around the world by the end of this year. But maybe this extreme rate is partly due to countries playing catchup with testing specifically for Omicron. Meanwhile, the Delta variant is still the 3rd leading cause of death in the US,

If health business was more about treating and curing diseases instead of making a profit of it, then "we" would have updated vaccines against Delta already now (ready for Christ-mess) and for Omicron at the latest by the end of January.
But big pharma, of course, first wants to get rid of its old brew and not invest in an updated soup - because that would cost precious profit...

yeah, I don't get it, maybe they're afraid to admit that a better vaccine could be better, or, maybe these variants just aren't that different

I'd suspect plain laziness. Why updating a vaccine if you can still sell the old brew and it even still helps to a good extent?
