The ill-purposed beauty of that Catholic church

I was surprised the church was open to anybody walking in, there were no services scheduled at that time, and unlike many Catholic churches, this one does not have a Saturday evening service, or I may well have attended. But, as this church is in the middle of a university campus, it probably feels more secure from the random public than other ( Read more... )

Yeah I have no problem at all if people want to worhsip a God, or Gods, or even their tea kettle if they really want to. But, there is a problem when people buy into Catholicism. Like, the child sex abuse thing at all? Would the moral thing not to be to go to their local church and say okay fellas, we'll not be worshipping in your church anymore until you sort your house out? And then just... go to a different church that doesn't have an endemic child abuse problem?

Yes, the child abuse problem alone -- but this sits on top of centuries of other kinds of abuse -- and they still treat women like second-class humans!

And indeed even the original abuse, the one that said they must be the sole gatekeepers of a persons relationship with the divine, that all must go through the clergy, and the cost is gold.

It's... a challenge to think of anything good we can say about the Catholic church.
