Time Warner Cable HD Service

Mar 27, 2008 20:48

I went out to a cable store yesterday and picked up an HD box. Having heard how they just recycle problem boxes I was glad to see mine was new.

Got it home and hooked it up. It booted and then the face plate read "Ait" for like an hour. Called Time Warner's Mumbai help desk and was told. The new boxes take 24 hours to load the software. Well ( Read more... )

I have never had that problem before with my HD box, nor heard of it taking 24 hours to load the software.

Have you tried to take the box in and get a new one?

Are you serious????? We went through 3 HD boxes before we got one that finally worked right. Now, we can't record anywhere close to the number of hours we're supposed to be able to with our box. I think we've had techs out to our house 3 times since we moved here in late October. Lots and lots and lots of problems!!!

Wow, I've had Time-Warner for seven years, and they have -always- been able to get me up and running again over the phone. However your situation may be different as it is a new account.

I have an standard digital box that is working perfectly and has not given me any trouble. Time Warner on the other had has been a pain in the ass for YEARS. They once cut off my service and when I called to investigate they told me it was because I had a balance due of $0.00, and I had to get a supervisor on the phone to turn it back on. The CSR would not do it until I paid the outstanding balance. Another time they shifted my due date AFTER they sent the bill, and then told me I was past due. One other time I tried to pay my bill over the phone and they ran it twice, then did not want to refund the extra charge.

If I could get Everest I would drop them like 8:00 AM accounting.

Ok, I should point out that I HATE HATE HATE Time-Warner too, because they will up-sale me in the bat of an eye, but I have to go to the freaking store, half an hour away, to figure out how to get my bill back down. I don't trust them any more than a second chance used car dealer.

That being said, their tech support tends to be pretty good.

I had this happen, and I think the issue was that I had all of my A/V cables hooked up to the box at the time of reboot. For some reason, on some TVs the box won't boot unless you disconnect all of the cables, save the coax and power cord (obvs).

Hope that helps, but don't be surprised if they tell you to go back the store and do the switcheroo. If it happens, call CS and politely insist that you receive a prorated credit. It worked for me.

Actually a friend who used to be an installer for a different cable company came over and my problem was a bad coaxial cable wire. I am now in business, but I am still too angry with TWKC to call them at this point.

Which brings up another question...The guide says History HD is included, but I get a message telling me I have to call customer service to get it. What is the deal?

How long did it say Ait?

It could be that you are having signal issues. What did you have the tv connected to before? Did you actually have a digital box, or was it plugged directly into the cable?

The digital boxes are more sensitive to the signal than just a normal tv. I'm guessing that you have signal issues. This could be caused by many things such as bad fittings on the cable or too many splitters, leading to low signal level and bit errors. The service tech will probably come look at this kind of thing. They have a signal meter that will tell them exactly what is happening. For good installations, there usually is not a problem, but every once in a while, you will find a bad install, self run lines and splitters that affect quality.

btw, It does not take 24 hours for the boxes to load the software. It might take them 24 hours to load the latest version (it will update in the middle of the night), but it should be able to get up and running right away.
