The silence as Itachi digested the information was.... strange. Far too extended to be comfortable, or expected, or even natural. Something more was going on here that he didn't know about--Itachi shouldn't be this thoughtful just at hearing about Deidara and Tobi. Did Itachi know about Tobi being Madara? That could explain it.... To some degree. Though honestly, he wasn't sure if even that sort of knowledge, if Itachi had known for a while, would account for such a prolonged silence. After all, what possible impact should it have that he needed to weigh things so carefully ( ... )

There was a brief, questioning look in Kisame's eyes, but it was gone so quickly, Itachi could have almost questioned its existence at all. But he had seen it, knew that it had been there, but was not sure how he should handle it. Did Kisame suspect something? Had Itachi somehow severely compromised himself and Kisame had caught on to it? Seeing as Kisame was not broaching the subject of whatever concern he had, Itachi thought it best to let him keep it to himself, choosing not make the situation more difficult to handle ( ... )

"Fair enough." Kisame agreed; it was a whole lot of assumptions, that much was true. Then again, you never knew.... Just as this could be an entirely fruitless journey and the four of them could be alone, Kisame knew there could just as easily be plenty of others still trying to figure things out here, too. Hell, for all he knew, they could be scattered across the map in different countries, after all--Itachi was right about the countries being big. They might have to brave the despicable desert heat to see if Sasori had arrived while they weren't looking ( ... )

Itachi stared at his partner, face blank, and yet confusion was dominating his thoughts. Why would Kisame say something like that? It did not make any sense how he could compare the weeks--months really, but not many--they had been trappped in that other dream world and then the time they had spent here and consider it a short amount of time.

A month, he says? He believes it has only been a month?

Things were not balancing out and that strange, awkward sense of...unfamiliarity was stronger now than it had been when he had arrived. Something was not right with his partner. He cut his eyes, looking Kisame over once more for any signs of injury that may have led to him misjudging time, or even caused a small amount of memory loss. Still he found none. And Kisame had all but said that he had not encountered any danger during his time here so far. So what could be causing a rift in his memories ( ... )

".....Itachi-san?" Kisame ventured, quieter than before, starting to get uncertain as he was first stared at, then looked over. It was a more deliberate, searching gaze than their automatic initial assessment had been; Itachi was looking for something. But what? He hadn't said anything that should warrant a ( ... )
