[When the screen turns on, there's a charming young man sitting in front of the hitomi. His hair is brushed neatly about his eyes, and both are a subtle, warm brown. Beside him are a collection of food items - most notably a freshly baked treacle sponge cake. Besides this treat there's a pitcher, several eggs, apples, a collection of edible nuts

[ L's expression softens, as does the tone of his voice. ]
I suppose we already are.

And yeah, it's pretty hard to become a great detective when the best of them thinks you're a murdering sociopath. Really puts a crimp in any future employment.

It isn't like you to express bitterness in regard to my suspicion.
[ Another pause, bloated with tension. ]
If we get out of this and I'm proven incorrect, I will strive to atone for my transgressions.

[He shook his head, slowly.]
If it's this or use the Note myself... I should use it myself. But then if the thirteen day rule's correct, I'll die, and if I don't you have all the proof you think you need to satisfy yourself that I'm Kira. It's a lose lose situation.

If we are to be here for a while, we should perhaps consider working on growing some rice or wheat. We don't know how long the stores will last before the rats get at it.
[Iroh doesn't know much about grain cultivation, besides that it is intensive work. A farmer might spend most of his time growing rice for his own family, and sell only part of that. But, surely, they would have not been brought here to starve.]

[He rubs at the back of his neck.]
There's a well in the centre of the village - if you could call it a center - I'm there at sundown every day, and I can bring you anything you need then.

Mmm... if your friend is burned, I can mix up something to help with the pain. I'm told honey is good for keeping the wound clean, if you believe old wives' tales. And I can see what I see in the forest to help.
[Iroh had doctored burns before -- he had to, to make sure Zuko would keep his eye -- but he hadn't tried to prepare the salves himself. Well, there was a first time for everything.]

In return I'll make sure I bring plenty of everything for you. When do you think you'll be able to make it to the well?

I'm glad to know that other people are actively thinking about these things. I haven't had any problem getting eggs -- but I've just been chasing down wild birds for them, not domesticating, because so far I've been mostly on the move.
I would love to have some honey though. There are vegetables growing near Hisato that I was using, but they do seem to grow better when someone tends them, and I'm not there now to do it.
Where are you located, though?

We live in Kusasato. There's a well in the village that works as a meeting point; I'm there at sundown to collect water every day, so if there's something you want, that would be the ideal moment.
If you could get hold of the plants, I have no doubt they'd grow well here, cultivated. In the long run it'd solve a bigger problem of finding food.

I haven't been to Kusasato yet, but I'm sure I can find a chance to come by there, given the way travel is here. Right now I'm in Raisato, but I'll be moving to Tsuchisato in a few days. I'm sort of... on a quest.
[He pauses and looks up. He really wants to settle in one place and do this too, but this quest is... important, for now.]
It's nice to see someone actually working toward the future this way instead of just trying to survive, and hopefully I can come meet with you sometime soon. I'll see what plants I can collect that would be useful, and probably bring some meat as well, if I happen to see anything on my way.

[He doesn't look like the questing type, but looks can be deceiving.]
Anything like that. If you come across herbs, they'd be useful too, but they're harder to spot. But yes, anything you see, we'd very much appreciate it, and if you're travelling I'm sure we can find you a spot to stay, if you need it.
I don't think I caught your name? I'm Light.

Hisato has abundant vegetables and fruit. We haven't started domesticating any animals yet, but that sounds like a good idea. I've been hunting large animals once a week and generally have more than enough to feed a village -- it goes to waste pretty quickly, though. We could probably trade meat for eggs, milk, and honey if you need any.
We also have large storehouses with plenty of tea and salt, and plenty of medicinal herbs as well. I'm not all too familiar with those beyond the basics, so if you need anything complicated, your best bet is to ask Umino Iruka.

[He smiles.]
I'll pass the name along.

The offer is noted. I have no returning offer to make at present, but I will keep it in mind.

You should know that there's an extended offer to stay with us if you ever need to. Kusasato is a very good place to hide, and we'd welcome you openly.

To Raito-san,
thank you for that offer, as well. I'll keep it in mind, even if I presently have no need for it.
