[When the screen turns on, there's a charming young man sitting in front of the hitomi. His hair is brushed neatly about his eyes, and both are a subtle, warm brown. Beside him are a collection of food items - most notably a freshly baked treacle sponge cake. Besides this treat there's a pitcher, several eggs, apples, a collection of edible nuts ( Read more... )

Ah, good morning. Well, as I mentioned before, I've been making tea, and I have a vegetable garden. I'd be happy to bring over what extras I have to spare. It's still spring, so it's mostly greens.

If we are to be here for a while, we should perhaps consider working on growing some rice or wheat. We don't know how long the stores will last before the rats get at it.

[Iroh doesn't know much about grain cultivation, besides that it is intensive work. A farmer might spend most of his time growing rice for his own family, and sell only part of that. But, surely, they would have not been brought here to starve.]

Morning! You know that anything like that would be ever so useful. It's a good point about the stores, but I suspect we'd need the help of farm animals to do it. Oxen, or horses -- maybe those big yellow birds I've seen once or twice. We're just city boys, so the idea of trying to catch an animal like that is really a little out of our league. Still, the grassland around Kusasato would be ideal for growing crops like that, and surely there's not too many of us that we can't support ourselves.

[He rubs at the back of his neck.]

There's a well in the centre of the village - if you could call it a center - I'm there at sundown every day, and I can bring you anything you need then.

Oh, certainly. Perhaps with a few more people, we could make it a regular market.

Mmm... if your friend is burned, I can mix up something to help with the pain. I'm told honey is good for keeping the wound clean, if you believe old wives' tales. And I can see what I see in the forest to help.

[Iroh had doctored burns before -- he had to, to make sure Zuko would keep his eye -- but he hadn't tried to prepare the salves himself. Well, there was a first time for everything.]

He's appreciate that a lot, I'm certain of it. And a market isn't such a bad idea. It'd encourage people to interract with each other and try and build up their reliance on the community. That there's someone to fall back on in times of trouble, and a good reason to work hard.

In return I'll make sure I bring plenty of everything for you. When do you think you'll be able to make it to the well?

It also will make sure as much gets used as possible. I'll be around near sunset, as you suggested.
