TWENTY OUGHT NINE WOOO

HEAPPY NEW YEARRRR 2008 was about the same as 2007 or 2006, which is to say that it was okay I guess. 2009 will probably be similar, although different enough because halfway through it I will be forcefully ejected into the Real World.
For New Year's Eve I went with lunarwhirlwind and Ricky to a certain Mr. Rob Lantz and company's house for a crazy party, where ( Read more... )

I think I had like...six shots of rum before I decided to call it a night?

NYCC is going to be a better idea for me, since no editors or anybody who uhhh cares about most american-produced comics goes to Otakon. Doesn't mean I'm not going to try!

Hypocritically, I AM digitally lettering right now, but I spent a hell of a lot of time handpicking a font that I feel matches my art, which is something I wouldn't have bothered to do unless I had sort of been indoctrinated on the importance of meshing lettering with your art, which is the main argument for hand lettering. Someday when I get the resources I'm going to get a font made of my lettering since it's a better time saver.

clearly this is the best response!

I was laughing because all of their "bad computer lettering" examples use comic sans. That almost doesn't even seem like a fair argument!

you should come to SDCC where all the cool kids are (40th anniversary this year!)

*A* if I get the money I so will! To be honest I'm kind of intimidated by SDCC, but if I can get the scratch together for it I would love to check it out.

Yay! I was also fairly intimidated last year but it's very very fun (and it is very easy to meet artists you like), plus I'll definitely be there so we could always hang out and be totally cool

That's because SCAD is actually a shitty college for comics or drawing or anything not done on autocad or in Photoshop, but it's really good at boosting student egos, so everybody from there either learned nothing and now sucks monkey dick while thinking "I'm fucking AWESOME" or they know they learned nothing and suck monkey dick and have already read that book to try and improve. Sadly, those who are aware that SCAD is a load of crap and that they got nothing useful out of being there are in the vast minority.

Talking to SCAD students with talent has convinced me that I am glad I never went there.

sfdlkjfsd I'M NOT

seriously, I have noticed a horrible trend. There are the AWFUL artists who say "SCAD IS AWESOME" and then there are the good artists who say "SCAD WAS A WASTE OF MONEY" wrrrryyyyyy

Reading this makes me kinda glad I was only there for a quarter. :$

And honestly, what comics program still has you in fucking foundation drawing classes and COLOR THEORY at the start of sophomore year, seriously.

Thanks for recommending this book; I'm adding it to my to-buy list at Amazon. *_*

Why am I buying a book on making comics? Because I consider myself a student of all arts, and diving into various styles and mediums is what really gets me inspired.

Oh, excellent! I can't recommend a better book on it, honestly. I think you'll get a lot of different information from it that you can use! There's a HUGE section that I just got to on pens and brushes and what type of lines you can get from different materials.

I'll look at the book, but it's kinda hard to say considering we never had a "storytelling" class per se.

PS: I MEAN, BRING IT.

PPS: Only if you read this one.
