So izhilzha came to visit for the day on Saturday and brought various forms of television crack with her. My reactions to the various shows to which I was introduced below:
N3: Yeah, I can't decide if I have a bigger crush on Charlie or Don at this time. On one hand, Charlie is a floppy-haired geek and is basically my husband only with less heinous fashion sense. On the other hand, Don surprised me by making me crush on him even though he doesn't fit the usual profiles of Characters Marie Will Almost Certainly Crush On. Hm. I think it's the Kevlar vest. With the tie and the rolled-up sleeves. Yeah. Good stuff.
I need to give TS another go. As Izh pointed out, it got a little overshadowed by N3. And is there some rule that anthropologists have to wear dreadful tweedy blazers? Because between Daniel Jackson and Blair Sandberg, it is not looking good. (Well, Daniel's gotten loads better...his jackets are actually very attractive now...but back in the day, he was a one for the occasional awful, horrible blazer.)
Oh, and in other news, Geo discovered CanIHasCheezburger. I thought of you.
I also hooked up with kerravonsen for the first time in the TS fandom. There are/were a lot of neat people in the cyber-sandbox I played in. And it got me involved in some fan activities from which I learned a lot about the whole fandom thing. In that regard, it became much more than a cheesy show to me; it was the basis of a lot of really weird experiences.
And yeah, I can see how watching N3 first would totally affect your acceptance of TS. They are definitely not interchangeable. Keep in mind that the creators of TS also brought us the movie The Rocketeer and the TV show The Flash. Whereas the creators of N3 have brought us math-based FBI crime solving and use former cops and current Cal Tech profs as their writers and consultants.
Oh! But if you become familiar with both N3 and TS, then you can read the x-over Izhi is writing. It promises to be really, really cool.

There are brief, shining moments of brilliance that keep enticing you into watching despite the utter, utter, utter suck-i-tude of modern BBC Dr. Who.
And I say this as a veteran of the most recent 3-part season finale (with the new! new! barty crouch Dr. Who, who is, really, just the bestest Doctor. Seriously: Is this not fabu?

Just in case you last through this season (which is marginally worth it to get through to the next season, which is mostly (mostly) better)--the writers of this finale were channelling Philip Pullman.
Okay, that scares me more than I can possibly say. In a good way or a bad way?

I kind of lost it during the parantheticals, but if she's talking about the S3 finale...in the worst way. In the worst way POSSIBLE, EVER. *is not a fan of many, many things about the S3 finale, although loves New Who and thinks that it is mostly good with brief moments of suckitude*
I don't know, though, I really got Philip Pullman from the S2 finale, though. What with the walls and voidstuff and all. (I think/hope that is sufficiently non-spoilery...)
So trust me, kevlar = not hot at all when you have been forced to watch old men parade around in it at the Mexican border. Especially when they're not wearing much else. *shudders* I think the therapy bill for banishing that from my brain is going to be more than we can afford.

*feels appropriately chastened for not working on said xover lately*
Actually, as long as she's deeply into one of the shows (say, N3), she can still read that story. Maybe if I finish it it'll help hook her on TS! *eg*

Chan, excuse the odd repetitiveness there, tho.

Definitely on the other side. I've warned you before about the high cheese factor!
As someone else said, at least watch all the (new) first season. It's only 13 eps, so no big thing there. If you still can't stand it, you can stop.
