Not Slashing Was Never An Option

So. Very strange things happen in the head when you fall in love with two fandoms at the same time. It's even weirder when one of them is Spartacus. And the other is Marvel movie-verse. DEAR GOD. And pictures like this:

So I have been dipping a toe into Marvel fandom lately! And these are the things I have to say:

First, Clint/Coulson, but I go on and on about that in a recent entrySecond, it's weird because right now the fandom is sort of, movie fans who may or may not have read any comics, plus the comics fans who really love the movies. Not unlike most of Star Trek fandom, there's been a pretty good marriage (probably because the movies were good) and people aren't all, "don't come in if you haven't read the comics." They're more like, "come on in! Don't read any comics until you talk to someone, because some of them are really shitty and annoying! Here are some scans ( ... )

1. Clint/Coulson -- they are sort of tasty and awesome, no? They really hit my competency!porn bump. I think that's the great thing about Avengers, and Marvel in general -- everyone is so Island of Misfit toys, but they totally make it work.

2.And I'm loving how friendly everyone from comicsverse seems. Man, I'm not sure that hardcore comicbook nerd-dom is ready for the force of a million fangirls that is about to descend onto them after Avengers comes out. I'm really excited! And yeah, AUs! I love it. I also love how it's all getting pasted on to the myth that is New York? And so, I've read like, crossovers with things like White Collar and Suits, as if it's all just happening together all at the same time? Which I LOVE.

3. to feel like the kind of ridiculous drivel that I tend to write-established relationship domestic nonsense, extended ensemble driven AUs where everyone is shipped at the end like a Shakespearean comedy, and smut where one party talks the other one into bed and then continues the conversation during and after ( ... )

My writing was, and is, alas dissertation shaped! BUT does this mean that YOU have written XMFC? WHERE IS IT? WHERE?????? I cannot take this amount of passion! I fear I will perish!

I heart Loki SO SO SO SO much. Also, alien god incest is so... satisfying.

I am glad you have discovered the gladiator boys! They are the prettiest! =D I encourage you to watch! It's really.... yum.

I CAN FEEL THAT I WILL HAVE TO COMMIT FIC SOON. I'm just having all the flails! It's been so long! I don't even know if I remember how...?

I'm so glad I didn't get sucked into Marvel fanverse alone. :D

I get uneasy about the whole "what precisely IS canon?" too, but I also kind of enjoy just being able to work with archetypes and pull shit together out of nowhere, like the Movieverse Avengers are living in the Comicverse Stark Tower and also Phil Coulson, you know, exists.

(nothing Tony Stark does is healthy!)

I suspect this is why I have felt an irresistible narrative pull towards him, especially since in comic canon he's BFFs with and in movieverse fanon he's about to be BFFs with STEVE ROGERS, VIRGINAL SUPERSOLDIER, PARAGON OF JUSTICE.

YAY FOR ENTERING INTO THE MARVEL VORTEX!

You are totally right re: canon. I'm also amused by how everything just sort of naturally crosses over, so people can be all, Harvey Spector is Tony Stark's lawyer and Peter Burke knows Phil Coulson...

It's sort of all-encompassingly awesome. =D

he's about to be BFFs with STEVE ROGERS, VIRGINAL SUPERSOLDIER, PARAGON OF JUSTICE.

UM YES. THIS IS RELEVANT TO ALL OF THE INTERESTS.

I also love how none of the girlfriends are in the Avengers movie at all, so, you know, it's just like the slashiest thing in all of slashland.

Oh man please tell me there actually is a fanfic about the epic awesome of Peter Burke and Phil Coulson in the same room together. Lie if you have to.

It does crack me up a little that poor Natasha's the only action chick in the film. Avengers Mansion is such a sausagefest.

(On the other hand now I want to write about how you'd think living with five male roommates would suck, but Steve's really tidy and Bruce never comes out of his room and Tony never comes out of the workshop and Clint basically actually lives with Coulson and Thor's hammer actually doubles as a magic laundry machine so Natasha ends up being the one who never does the dishes.)
