Ninja entry #4571...wait, you're not supposed to see me!

Dec 29, 2010 13:24

I thought I'd put up some of my favorite videos from 2010 over the next few days.

Because people getting hit in the face with a steampunk cupcake cannon is never not funny:

OMG Kali Squeeeee!!!!

*glomps you*

I want a cupcake cannon now.

I am going to a Steampunk NYE party as an airship-engineer-in-a-kilt Montgomery Scott: "Winch me up, Scotty" :P I'm sure I could use a cannon of that sort to fend off boarders!

I guess that's where the term 'dogsled' originated?

*hugs*

"Winch me up, Scotty!" That is such a powerfully visceral visual. In other words, it's HI.LAR.I.OUS. I owe you a long overdue e-mail and it is coming, I swear. How were your holidays, my darling?

Were? ARE! :)

I'm going to a little 'cabin in the woods' near a place called Colac just after New Year's, for four days of relaxation, gaming, stargazing (during a New Moon and the Quadrantid meteor shower, no less!) and general awesomification, and *then* a lovely friend from my old home town is coming over for a week and *then* we're taking a roadtrip back to my old home town together to deliver a car some friends are selling to some other friends and *then* I have a long weekend with my old crowd doing more roleplaying and general chillaxing and such.

And then I start my shiny new Astronomy degree :D So the holiday never ends!!!

Giftmas and Boxmas, in comparison, were dull and boring, except for the inevitable overload of delicious calories.

I shall send you pictures of me in a kilt, of course :D

WOW. Wait, shiny new Astronomy degree? See, I'm so behind that I didn't know that you were going back to school.

Cabin in the woods? *shudder* Take a Saturday Night Special with you just in case.

Goodness, you Aussies must get generously proportioned holidays!

Send me pictures. I demand them!

Holy crap, I missed whatever Slott did. Is there a summary or something somewhere?

Also: awesome vids.

Also also: glad to see you posting again! I've missed reading your commentaries and views!

Start here. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Follow those links around and you'll come across more, and I'll sling more your way when I gather them together.

Holy. Fudging. Spitballs.

I'm kinda glad I gave up on his writing after he started on Avengers: The Initiative.

I tried Avengers: The Initiative because I have insane character loyalty to Tigra but it wasn't to my taste. His writing, I mean.

I forget which of the writers working on A:TI made Black Mamba a villain again but that's when I threw up my hands and said "Done."

Thank you!

Hey, do the post-BND FF still know that Peter is Spidey, or did that get retconned away?

I'd be the first person to tell anyone that their online identity is anything but anonymous, especially in fandom. Look at all the people who have had to go and change their online names because their accounts get hacked into or whatnot? I personally take my online life and the lines I've drawn very seriously--it took me forever to put my real name even on my Facebook, and the only reason why I do is because it is very clearly divorced from everything else I do online.

The only time I've let the worlds cross a little bit have been meeting friends I've known online for years, and when I go to shows I do go by Kiku (though that's mostly because my real name is quite the mouthful)--case in point, the first time I ever introduced myself at a band event years ago as Kiku, people who I didn't even know, people who I had never even seen an inkling of online, and certainly had never had words with in cyberspace, just looked at me and said, "You're the girl with the translations." In Japanese, no less ( ... )

Well said. To be clear, Slott et al are calling people with internet handles anonymous barbarian hordes, lumping us in with people who really ARE anons and whose behavior is often much more vicious.

But you knew that already. And look! You're famous in Japan!

That's almost worse, really...especially seeing him be such a hypocrite by participating in sockpuppeting. I guess there's a reason why I tend to keep my fandom bubble closed and contained; I'm just not as fun as I used to be, and I feel too old to be amused by other people going around and flinging insults at each other. I don't even read f_w anymore.

As for my being famous in Japan, well, I think I have some way to go, but hopefully if I do all of it will be positive.

It's always so happy to see an update from up! I've been reading the Gauntlet/Grim Hunt trades from the library and not only are they dour and lifeless, they're poorly focused. A major personality change for Aunt May is shrugged off, instead of investigated. *sigh*

And I love the cannon!
