Since I'm a priest, it's obvious that I'm a theist--a henotheist panentheist if you want to be ridiculously precise. However, I'm not wanting to lecture everyone. What religious systems do you all have where you come from? Do you adhere to them ( Read more... )

You're a priest? I was about to look for one to head a memorial service for those who aren't on the boat anymore ... I was listening to people and playing them music, but I'm not really qualified to run a service ...

On my world, we have many many gods and demons, and hosts of lesser spirits ... I'm not sure what that's called. Most of them are nature spirits, some are ancestor spirits, pretty much everything has a spirit. Most people offer sacrifices to them, or at least do little things to make them happy, probably to get blessings or turn away their wrath.

[It wasn't spoken, but Kate wasn't really very faithful.]

Only a few of the gods actually give rules though, I think that's the big difference between my world and what I've read about others. The Knights are one, they're the spirits of five swords who teach chivalry and honor. And the five dragons created the world, they represent the elements, and the people they created have lots of rituals ... I'm not familiar with them ... they're sort of the enemies of my country.

Yes, I'm a priest.

[He smiles, then listens to her words.]

I could definitely provide a memorial service, and I think that's a great idea. Thank you for the idea.

That sounds rather complicated. Do you have any particular beliefs?

Excellent! Whenever you're able, let me know what I can do.

[When asked about her beliefs, she thinks.]

I was raised Chivalrous ... its sort of tough to not believe in it you know? But I don't think I can be that honorable ... I don't really feel a connection to any of the spirits ... at least not personal. I don't want to pretend to honor them if I don't really feel it.

There might be unknown spirits. Where I'm from, in most churches we have a small altar to an Unknown God, for those who don't feel a particular calling to any deity.

There are spirits where I come from. Most of them live in the spirit world and only show up when you do something to make them mad. Like this knowledge spirit who tried to bury my friends in his library for some reason.

We have temples and shrines where you can ask spirits for good stuff too though.

Do the spirits listen? Or do they expect certain behaviours and sacrifices?

They listen. Sort of. It helps if you have the Avatar around. He's in charge of all that spiritual mumbo jumbo. They listen to him.

The Avatar? We have Avatars on my world, I wonder if they're similar to what you have...

Oh god, too many to count. We got priests and whackjobs like anyone else. This one cult, which these geeenius ex-cons came up with?

Worshiped a bug.

They named it Slither. Passed around pamphlets claiming it to be godly and monstrous.

Chya, a teensy widdle insect. Somebody--I don't know who--named 'em scythids. They fly and jump and squeal.

I wanna point out that I got to clean Slither off my shoes.
