Night-training

Three for three. I got YB up at 11ish. OB woke up around 6.20 this morning and woke YB up for a wee - a big one, apparently. OB nearly persuaded YB to go back to sleep, but then he saw that there was a 6 on the clock and that was it.

Looks like you're heading towards a big success there. Congratulations to YB, he seems to have worked it all out!

Amazing what the target of a Playmobil volcano+dinosaur set can do. Plus somebody recommended having him sleep naked so he doesn't have anything that fells nappyish next to his skin, maybe that's part of the success. And we keep re-inforcing the "wake up if you need the toilet" message.

Plenty of time for it to go wrong though!

To me it appears that he's a very bright lad addicted to patterns and numbers and possibly competitive. I'm just saying that because I think you should probably try and find out about some enrichment now; try pushing him on the pattern sensing and try and tie that in with some kinaesthetic development. OK, I'm saying try to teach him to juggle.

Considering you've not met him yet, you have him pretty much summed up - especially with regard to the competitiveness and kinaesthetics! We have started working on his throwing skills because just now he doesn't have any...

You could also try cuisenaire rods: http://www.bestilearnstore.co.uk/cuisenaire-rods-connecting-introductory-set-559-p.asp

Not sure that that's the best variety, though.

I just want to say, I have taken your bribery idea and run with it. We get 20p per dry morning, and there's a piggy bank involved. Thank you!

It worked with my oldest - a Cadbury miniature for every full row of stars on his hand-drawn star chart. Quite how he managed to end up as skinny as he is (he's 20 now!) is a complete mystery :)

A Cadbury miniature does not a couch potato make.

No, you want a grandfather living in a Fry's-owned house and a mother who also worked for them, AND a delivery driver for Mars living opposite to do that.

How much will your morning routine change once YB starts school? When he's a big boy at school, he's going to need more sleep so he can do more big boy things, so he ought to be staying in bed until there's a 7 on the clock!

I said that to him this morning. It's just that up till now we've all had to get up at 6am five mornings a week and his body clock got stuck there. From tomorrow he doesn't have to - it'll take a while for him to acclimatise but he'll get there.

And it won't be all that long till he's a teenager and we'll all get a lie-in!

Ha. Don't you believe it.
