Today YoungBloke did some painting. He started off painting a whole sheet of paper blue. Then he painted me on another sheet of paper. This was mostly another blue effort but you could see while he was painting, and as he narrated, that there were blue eyes on the blue face ( Read more... )

Today YoungBloke did some painting.

Keep them. Frame them.

We've got junior pidge's junior paintings on the kitchen wall.

We've also now got junior pidge's teenage decoration on her bedroom wall.

We get a fair bit of stuff back from nursery. Not much of it gets kept, but milestones tend to. I think this one will.
What I found interesting was that he had a dialogue with me about what parts I had that needed adding to the painting. After the legs and head, next most important is apparently my tummy... But he wanted to see my real feet before painting them on the end of the legs, etc. This may be the first time he's really thought of a proper, direct, equivalence between the real world and what he's putting on the paper.

During the recent clear-out of the spare room, I found two scrapbooks full of Charles' early drawings, home (or school) made Mother's Day cards, notes to Mummy and all sorts of lovely stuff.

Charles was incredulous! "What on earth do you want to keep all that for?" was his reaction.

He doesn't know that I have another two books full!

Ma still has the ultimate proof that I was destined to become an accountant. Apparently, when we went decimal (I was nearly 6), Ma converted our 3d pocket money to 1p. I *wrote her a letter* to say that much as I loved her, we should be getting 1.5p.

How many oboes does Daddy have? (I'm assuming one on each arm, but I'm still curious)

And Yay! for the writing his name. There'll be no stopping him now. When I was tiny, I used to write any old strings of letters and Ma would read them out to me. She pulled such amazing faces while she was doing it that an older kid started doing it and her Ma was cross that she'd stopped writing real words.

Of course a clock. He'll be wanting one of his own soon.

Go YB! We get a lot of that kind of painting, too, but not any upside down as far as I remember. (Though come to think of it, his painting at home isn't often of people, anyway, though he's come home with drawings which are said to be him and a parent from nursery often.) I'm impressed by , the writing, too, don't think Colin would do that yet. (Today's exploit was that he decided to send a painting to our friend B in the US, and insisted on writing North America on the envelope; but I had to do dots for him to go over.)

My parents make cookies (biscuits?) with a gluten-free flous mix I made up when Alex was wheat-reactive. The results are completely indistinguishable from homemade wheat-flour cookies.

I sure wish I could remember what was in that mix. Pretty sure it had sweet rice tflouuryghbn (Alex is ghevlgpitng type)ghhhhbb, potato stauruhcbhb, tapicoca staggrvcvcbh, and maybe some xanthan guym.y yTTPtlus flaxssbedv mveaclx, for good cvolvocxcrv . I need to practice baking, actually. I've managed some nice muffins and want to have a go at biscuits/cookies. And one day I'll master gingerbread men!

We have one of Child's paintings framed; he did it at about 18 months and it's amazingly lively and has rhythm and colour. Sadly not on acid-free paper.

And what is wrong with standing underneath, jumping up, and bopping the bag from the bottom? Great discovereies can be made by doing something other than "supposed to" (I know you know this, of course). I am also minded of the time two complete clankers (adults) took a football off the kid and his mate because it was a Football and it was Supposed to be Used as a Football, not the way they were using it...
