As Ran-kun opens the door to this particular study, he'll find he's hit jackpot. Not only has he found the Shinichi he is looking for -- other Conans barely tolerate being treated as a child. They would object strongly to sitting on someone else's lap. This one is not only happy where he is, but is cuddling -- but he's got found a bonus Shinichi he wasn't even looking for! Shinichi glances up as Ran enters, nodding in greeting but quickly turning his attention back to the story that Conan is reading him, as engrossed as though he is hearing it for the first time.

Which, considering the katana resting on the floor beside their armchair, he just might be.

"You'll probably have an easier time convincing him if you let her help," Ran pointed out.

"She can help me convince him when I tell them at the same time," Conan said stubbornly.

Unfortunately from him, Ran was just as stubborn and had the benefit of knowing quite well how his alternate's brain worked. "Except then you're just going to wind up having to convince both of them by yourself."

"Not a problem! My plan's going to be so brilliant it speaks for itself!" Conan said proudly. "Once I work out all the details that is."

For a moment, his only response was a very, very flat look.

"And what happened the last time you did that?"

Because Ran had absolutely no doubt that something similar had already happened before.

"Tropical Land was your idea." Pause. "Don't tell Ran I said that."

"What's that supposed to mean?!"

"That the Black Organisation targeted me because I was the only person in the class who stayed home. If I'd gone I'd still be me."

"You didn't see that coming either," Ran muttered. "And that isn't the point! I'm talking about what happened the last time you thought one of your plans 'spoke for itself'."

"What did happen then?" Conan said mutinously. "Since you seem to know all the answers already any way."

"I bet you didn't even get halfway through it before you were shot down," Ran-kun said decisively.

He did, did he? Conan quirked an eyebrow in Shinichi's unimpressed manner and slid off the chair, book in hand. "If you're going to shoot my ideas down I'm definitely keeping them to myself," he said, over his shoulder as he headed to the door.

"Fat chance your plan has of working if you can't get me or the old man to agree." Ran folded his arms and stayed planted right where he was in front of the door. "Why don't you just tell her?"

"You know so much, you tell me."

Ran didn't seem to be about to move so Conan huffs dramatically, throwing his book on the windowseat before climbing up after it.
