We went out yesterday for a birthday dinner, hibachi and sushi, with housemates and some local Portland area friends. Glad to hear Zero History is making progress. I really loved Spook Country, and I hope the new one is closer to that than Pattern Recognition, which was saved from being boring only by Gibson's prose and nifty ideas about near future media.

Omg, that's the exact opposite of how I felt about those books! :)

Pattern Recognition was profound and beautiful, while Spook Country was merely tolerable.

I've met William Gibson several times because he lives in the same town I do! Actually I was working in a bookstore a while back and he came in. I was trying to figure out something to say that was more profound than, "Hey! You're William Gibson!" (He knows that already), and then he left.
Afterward I realized I should've gotten him to sign the copies of his books we had in stock.

ha, that's so cool! :)

(Also, that's not a bad idea, authors love signing book stocks in the store, unless they're in a hurry or whatever).

Both yuki_onna and I are all too often at a loss of what to say, when meeting our favorite authors. It's a non-trivial problem!
