intercepting transmissions [Enterprise Bridge]

Oct 02, 2009 19:43

When not on the Bridge, scouring over subspace and trying desperately to pick up something useful, Nyota found herself trying all manner of things to try and distract herself from the horrible truth: they had absolutely no leads, no information. Nothing. It was hit and miss; sometimes she found herself pleasantly distracted, other times she didn't ( Read more... )

Spock got away with working a double shift and ignoring two meals by saying he was fulfilling his various roles of Captain and then First Officer/Science Officer. The laboratories would not manage themselves. Paperwork did not stop because the captain was gone. As Captain, he needed to make sure the ship was battle-ready ( ... )

As soon as she spotted Spock striding toward her, Nyota settled herself back in her chair and once more brought up the original transmission. After enough time working together, she knew that he would want to know all of the details which she would do her best to provide.

Voice all business, she glanced over her shoulder at the Commander as she tapped her screen, enlarging a section of space that the trace had told her the transmission originated from. "Here," she explained, performing the familiar act of passing Spock her earpiece so he could listen to the transmission himself. "I was checking all the frequencies and I found this. It's recent, like within an hour recent. And it's George." She didn't add what she was thinking, that it meant they were still alive, not wanting to get her hopes up any higher than they already were. Because sending that transmission was dangerous and if Nero found out... She didn't even want to think about that.

He listened to the cryptic words spoken by that familiar voice, his brows narrowing slightly as he concentrated on the sound and meaning of the message. Then he passed back the earpiece to her.

It was simple enough to step to her otherwise, push the substitute science officer out of the way so he could access the current trajectory they were following. The coordinates matched up with only some minor corrections.

Spock took a breath that may have been a quiet sigh of relief. They would deal with the troubling news of the message when it came, but for now--they had to find them. "It is...assuring."
