POTATO 9 2011

Translated by juniority
Sato Shori: In the summer, when I see people driving in convertibles, I think: “they’re adults.” It’s so cool! I want to drive a convertible to the beach,
someday. But in the summertime the me of right now goes to the pool, plays tag with the local kids, plays sports, and reads manga…
It’s not adult-like at all (smile). But this summer, I want to become a little more fashionable, like an adult.
I look up to Jesse Lewis-kun because he is so fashionable. I want to try and copy his heart accessories and the way he layers clothing.
It might be a little early for me to wear accessories, but Jesse -kun is so cool, he’s always nice when he speaks to me, and he’s a great sempai.
Recently, it made me really happy when he kindly said: “you’ve gotten good at dancing!

Sō Matsushima: I think going to the beach, sitting on the sand beneath a parasol, and relaxing with a drink
while listening to the waves is very adult-like.
But when I go to the beach, in reality all I do is fish. Leisurely being taught how to fish by my father was a lot of fun, but now is the most fun.
Of course, there are boring times when you don’t catch any fish too… (smile)
I haven’t decided what my plans are for this summer yet, but I sure want to go to the local summer festival.
There are lots of booths and lots of comedians and other entertainers, so it’s really fun every year.
Speaking of that, I recently noticed that the apple candies that they sell at one of the booths are only candy on the outside,
on the inside they insert regular apples, and I was shocked (smile). Also, if there’s time, I want to go camping with my friends.
It’s fun to be loud and boisterous out in nature!

Yūta Kishi: If it’s about how I play in the summertime, that’s definitely by going to the river to swim with my friends.
We jump into the river from high places and play courage games. I like playing out in nature like that. I’ve also gone surfing with my father.
But I couldn’t surf at all and I got frustrated (smile). That’s why I think that someone who can surf well is like an “adult;”
I look up to that sort of person, and want to become like that. Surfers are all macho and cool, right?
I also want to challenge surfing and being able to ride the waves with a good feeling. Another thing I want to try this summer is barbecuing!
I want to cook my friends’ parts too, and then give it to them, if I can. Isn’t that adult-like? And if I was able to eat bitter goya,
which I dislike, and think that it’s delicious, I think that I’d get a little closer to growing up… but that’s probably impossible (smile).
