You want obscure? I've got obscure.
Tomorrow is election day in
Rockingham District 14 in New Hampshire, for a special election for one of four hundred (yes, four hundred) spots in the New Hampshire lower house.
No one has the faintest idea what's going to happen. It's a heavily Republican district, but the Republican candidate, Kevin Janvrin, is getting what seems like serious competition from a Libertarian, Brendan Kelly. That could siphon off a lot of Janvrin's support. To make matters even more complicated, the Republican has the endorsement of various labor unions (he is a member of one) and (gasp) does not support the New Hampshire Republican party's advocacy of a Right to Work bill (neither does the Democrat, Bill Mahoney).
Democrats have vastly outperformed their 2010 numbers in the two previous special elections held in the past several months in New Hampshire for similar seats. Is that trend still going strong? Even if it is, that probably wouldn't be enough in a head-to-head contest in this district, but it's a menage a trois, and any one of them, even the Libertarian, could come out on top.
