Let me set the scene: It's 6:30 in the morning, after my second or third night in a row of deep, restfull sleep, and I'm lying in bed, not intending to get up for another hour or two. I'm 3/4 asleep, and dreaming

Wow.. maybe your cat was just toying with it? That's like.. a miracle hehe.
I shot a bird with a bb gun a few years ago. It didn't die and I felt like such an ass for shooting it that I nursed it back to health and set it free >.
Don't get too mad at Pippin-- he is just being Pippin. I learned a lot from going to classes with Taz, the most important of which was to set things up so you don't have to fight battles that can be avoided. How about putting a bell on him? That would take away his ability to be stealth. I would do that, or make him an indoor cat.

We tried the bell thing on our other cat Buster, years back. He stopped bringing thing in for a while, but then started up again, so we put a dog sized bell on him and the same thing happened. Later, we learned from some cat expert that puting bells on cats only makes them better hunters in the long run.
I'm not really that mad a Pippin. He's just being a cat. I just wish he'd keep it outside.

I am glad you aren't too mad at him, You are right- he is just being himself.
Buster had the most annoying habits, and what I wouldnt give to see him around to do one of those stupid things again. Like chasing skateboards. Or hoovering right behind you as you cook.
As far as a bell goes, what I think you did with your Buster was teach him how to hunt with a bell. If you randomize it, it will totally fuck his hunting up. Put it one some days, not others, etc.
