An Anniversary Thing
Peter insisted that they spend their first anniversary in Kendal-he wanted to spend the time, with Rose, in the place where everything had started. Rose had laughed, at first, asking why they couldn’t simply spend it in London, but had relented upon seeing that he was both serious and not a little stung by how cavalierly she’d

Rose is a very lucky woman--although it is, to some degree, recompense for her suffering. (I'm in a mellow mood tonight--and we didn't even go out for beer and sushi!)
Aw, poor Peter...I FEEL YOUR PAIN.
As well you should--this is all down to that particular conversation, you know!
*begins imagining the details of this*
*DIES*
Wall!Secks!
I also love that, though she's trying, she hasn't magically and instantaneously conquered her (completely understandable, albeit irrational) insecurity.
It's totally, 100% irrational--but I honestly can't think of Rose handling it any other way; it's the last lingering effect of School Reunion. As well, Rose is so fiercely protective--and possessive, really--of Peter, that she'd have a hard time sharing him. Enh, she's young, still--and she *does* get over it.
It made it all the better for me - I started grinning like a giddy idiot as soon as I read this line.Yay! I can imagine him stealing glances over at ( ... )

I thought about it, truthfully--but Peter's so much about the sensuality of the experience. Making love in the car might be hot and of-the-moment, but I can't imagine it's terribly fun or comfortable.
They have these *places*...that are magical and special and that magic and the love in and for those places comes through in your writing.
P_C said Peter's almost cat-like in his devotion to places; that's part of it, certainly, but it's more than that. I wish I knew how to explain it, but it's as much to do with the aura, the feeling and experience of the places, as the places themselves ( ... )

Peter is such a romantic... le. sigh. I was actually thinking, because we've had the wedding and reception and baby, that this was going to be wedding anniversary. I *love* the fact that Peter is stressing the anniversary of when they first got together. It was, after al, the point at which his life changed most dramatically... And I *sort* of get why Rose didn't catch on at first... but as usual, she's a smart woman and knows her lover well.
They spent the train ride north talking softly, relaxing more and more the further they got from Londontrain rides are wonderful for just that reason... gives you a chance to ( ... )

It wasn't until last night, as I was writing the Summary, that I realized the ambiguity in which anniversary it was. *g* It's their first anniversary together, period. I'll have to mull over how they spend their first *wedding* anniversary!
what about transportation while in Kendal ? I guess they could rent, or borrow a car.
They hired (rented) a car
Yes, he does. And they are *true* friends
Exactly right.
Rose's discomfort is understandable on some levels, especially this early in the relationship. But to those of us on the outside, who watch jealously at how thoroughly besotted Peter is with Rose, it really does seem irrational.
Based on what I've written, it's something Peter never really understands; Rose kind of muddles through on her own. We'll see how long that lasts, though--rewrites and tinkering will no doubt occur.
And, as you point out, Rose is still young.
she's a romantic too... and she ( ... )

He made sure the towel was tucked securely around his hips before sitting down.
*giggle* worried they might miss their dinner reservation is he ?
“I...I got this for you.” She handed him the rectangular package. “I...well...it seemed the only right thing for you.”
indeed.
She pulled back with a smile. “Happy anniversary, Peter.”
“But...I…I didn’t get you anything.”
She cupped his cheek. “I’ve got you.” She leaned forward, kissing him gently, ending by brushing a soft kiss over his jaw.
see... she really is a romantic :)
I love you so dearly, Peter.” She squeezed his hand. “I don’t think I tell you enough.”
is she kidding ? I've never known two people who say "I love you" more often than these two do ! But of course, Peter's response is spot on... you never can tire of hearing it...
Rose paused at the boot of the car to lean her head back and look at the stars, as she so often did.
“D’you miss it?” he asked softly.
She tilted her head down, gazing steadily at him. “Yes. But I’d miss this more.”
le. sigh.

Just a bit. Who would blame Rose, either, if she reached over and ripped his towel off of him?

They really do say it an awful lot. Poor Lucy--it must embarrass her to no end, once she's a teenager!
do we get to hear this conversation ever ?
Nope. Sometimes, even Peter and Rose get a bit of privacy ;)
Hope the rest of your trip is less jet-lagged
I'd bet....not. But thanks!

Somewhat tangential: have they ever stayed at the Inn?

I still need to go back and re-read TWoT, especially as I've not gone back and re-read the entire thing since I posted it!
