Jessie Quick with the timely intercession of Captain Atom has Sabbac on the ropes. With the demonic gangster's relative inexperience betraying him in the heat of combat, Quick and Atom's combination of expertise and ability have handily negated Gregor's edge in raw power. Near Sabbac, fist curled and ready for when the demon starts showing signs of recovery, Jesse Quick stands still, catching her breath...

And then staring at the man just emerging from the blackness. Her breath catches in her throat. This cannot be good.

The cold chill going up his spine tells Captain Atom that this just isn't good. With Sabbac lying on his back in an exhausted heap he leaves Jesse to engage the newcomer. It's someone he hasn't seen before, but as the old Irish saying goes about the company you keep. He must not be here to help.

"Who are you?" asks Captain Atom as quantum energy builds around his hands.

Something's happening in the sky, but the figure that steps out gives her pause. There's a fraction of a second that is numb, then confused, then terrified.

"TECTUM!" From two sides a fog comes rushing in, almost howling on its arrival and flooding the area.

...the Mask comes off and his face is revealed. Death to those who look upon it.

Oh God. She knows. Squeezing her eyes shut as the mask begins to lift, Jesse screams, "Don't look at him!"

Jesse's warning comes to late as Captain Atom screams holding his eyes. Energy pours from his face as the air around him begins to superheat like the uncontrolled reaction on an nuclear explosion.

No Fear. Its a kitchy line of clothing. Its the goal of the Lantern Corps, and for as long as he can remember, for Travis Grey, its been the truth ( ... )

The mist had rushed through straight to Corrine, averting her eyes to whatever terror was under the suited man's mask. In the center, however, she can't see anything in any direction.

She knows Sand, Hourman and Mary are close by... if they haven't moved. There's a lot of noise all of the sudden, from seemly everywhere. Someone-- if not a couple people-- went down. She got that, at least. She won't wonder who right now, especially if she wants to keep her lunch.

Right. Damage control. She gets on the ground, finding Mary first. She's got no intention to let her out of her sight, even as she finds Hourman and begins the incantations to heal.

Hourman's dangerous wounds begin to mend. His condition is grave but it is no longer fatal. The magics of Corrine's spell begin to do their work and bone and tissue continue to mend.

Superman looks behind Darkseid, and sees many things.

Atom rising upward in a green bubble, looking as if he's about to go supernova.

Johnny Sorrow, with his back actually turned to Superman at this moment, now on the scene. Could this get any worse? he thought to himself.

And Darkseid about to unleash the Omega Beams again.

He's stuck. But for the moment, he has to deal with the situation that has the most potential loss for life. "We'll have to finish this some other time. Tell your new MASTER this isn't finished."

And he streaks off towards the center of town, hoping to stem the loss of life.

Darkseid cannot fly but his titan strength makes his leaps mile long bounds.
He will catch up to Kal-El in but moments and Superman's friends will be in within reach of the Lord of Apokolips.
