The tide of battle turns

Jessie Quick with the timely intercession of Captain Atom has Sabbac on the ropes. With the demonic gangster's relative inexperience betraying him in the heat of combat, Quick and Atom's combination of expertise and ability have handily negated Gregor's edge in raw power. Even know the mighty champion of the infernal rolls dazed on the ground from Jesse's precision blow.

The great emerald and onyx dragon of fire and shadow has been transfigured into glass and subsequently shattered, leaving a battle weary Steel, Sand and Merlynne standing next to an unconscious Mary Bromfeild and a gravely wounded Hourman. Descending quickly upon their position is a great fiery bird of green flames and seething darkness. At it's center the Possessed Alan Scott can be barely seen.

On the outskirts of Fawcett, Superman and Lantern Travis struggle against the Lord of Apokolips, Darkseid.

It is here as the battle reaches a fevered pitch that a shriek, plumbed from the darkest nightmares of the mind, tears through the twilight air. Eyes are drawn up to to deep purple sky and bear witness to a fissure of inky blackness erupting the air. From it's depth steps a man, or what looks like a man, for only only his crimson suit and featureless mask can be seen. Sparing no time, the newcomer reaches up to his face...
