Runnin' a tight ship.

Kilowog's finding his patience running extremely thin, the longer these negotiations wear on. Concentrating this many Lanterns in one spot had to be done, but dammit if it doesn't leave them undermanned everyhere else. Pressing rookies into the line of duty before he's done whippin' 'em into shape. Never a good sign ( Read more... )

Koltor Zal is not happy.

"My people have trouble respecting any authority not their own, sir," comes the clipped response, as he stares down a Thanagarian general.

"Permission to crack skulls, sir?"

"The situation, Lantern, is that a Thanagarian born and bred is taking up arms against his brethren, allying himself with an enemy of the government."

The general is giving no ground. Thanagarians seldom do.

"In other words, General Shoggoth here wants to be able to attack the Okaarans here with impugnity."

He does not leave easily, but he's leaving.

Wings folded back, fists clenched, wishing he still carried a gun so he might shoot something.

Zal doesn't even look up.

"Seven hells, they will..."

"You keep trying to beat them on their terms, they will."

He's contacted them both. A mid-way point between the Dominion and Khund establishments, where they might be able to talk in peace.

He waits, arms crossed and pacing.

She's not entirely sure what to expect from this meeting, but she's got a vague idea.

She doesn't hope it's correct.

"Zal," she says, by way of greeting.

She leaves it at that for now.

Katar, once again, more polite, at least.

"Thank you, Zal. We don't want to keep you from your duties for too long."

"You won't," he assures, before regarding them again.

"It is unfathomably strange to know the two of you are alive and have simply evaded capture. Yet... I have no idea why I expected that assertion of the government to be true, when so little of what they say actually is."

"You are, Katar. Those weren't my words. Those are what the Downsiders say. I would not doubt that, if anything, you were Shayera's 'faithful companion,' but social mores on Thanagar are hardly the focus these days."

He shakes his head.

"You have to go back there. Both of you. Whatever you've become, leave it behind. You could quite literally change the world."

Shayera smiles drily.

"Obviously social mores aren't the focus on Thanagar at the moment, or it wouldn't be assumed that one person in a relationship between a man and a woman must be subordinate."

Then she sighs a little, and shakes her head.

"But we can't just leave our lives behind to return to Thanagar. We've been exiled for years now. Maybe when the JLA is done preventing intergalactic war - that is why we came, after all."

Katar's response is a bit more considered.

"Our exile was imposed by a High Mor that is no longer in power... and those who would support our exile are in a struggle for any sort of control."

She'll know what he's thinking. Ever the optimist.

"Our duties with our League come first. We will not break our word to help here."

His eyes shift to his partner.

"We have... much to discuss. Thank you, Zal. We shouldn't keep you any longer."

"I will be around if you have more questions. Just talk to your John Stewart, if you need to contact me."

That stoic face he's been giving them cracks somewhat.

"Please. Do what is right. Make Thanagar a place we can be proud of once again. As it was in the time of Kalmoran. Together, it can be done."

A fist goes to his chest in salute of these two heroes, before he turns to leave them in peace.
