I was actually looking for Howl's Moving Castle things, cause I was asked to write a monologue for a Howl cosplayer. I'm honored that this person thinks I would be capable of doing such a thing, but the instructions I was given were that he wants it to say, "Hey, I'm Howl. I' ( Read more... )

Yeaaaah... I love that song - but the Frou Frou cover that was on the Shrek 2 soundtrack, not the Jennifer Saunders version they used IN Shrek 2. This one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VU0q-9uNhI

I actually like to think of it as a girl looking for the one she be not have to be strong with, the partner you know will watch your back so you can relax for once... but that's just me. :o)

Not like Frou Frou.
Oh, so it was in a movie thing? It sounded like quite a bit of action music just for a song. ^_^ A bit of a big orchestra, too. But that makes sense.

Your idea is good, too, but for me the "sweep me off my feet" sorta swipes it, and you still probly wouldn't want him to be fightin'. Oh well. ^_^

That song was originally recorded in 1984 by Bonnie Tyler. It appeared on the soundtrack for the Kevin Bacon movie Footloose, although the hero of that movie wasn't really a fighter (except against authority). I think the song resonated at that time because the changing role of women in American society left a lot of us feeling insecure. As small children, we were socialized to expect to be housewives and mothers. By the time we came of age, it was clear that we would have to support ourselves and make our own decisions. While new-found freedom is exhiliarating, it is also frightening.

I listened to that version. It's a whole lot less whiny than the one in the video. :) But she's a bit more yelling, too. In either case, I guess it makes sense. Since it appears it continues to be used, I guess it still has some resonance, which makes sense. It's not as big and dramatic as what happened then, but I'm pretty sure girls are still raised with some of that expectation to grow up and get married to a prince charming, but it turns out that that's not quite the way it goes. Ah well.

Sarra owns a copy of Howl's Moving Castle. You're welcome to come over and watch it whenever you've got time.

Thankee, however ilaifire has already provided me with a copy. I think I've got a good taste for his personality, I just need more structure to the monologue as in who is he talking to? Or if he's just contemplating something with himself, what? Sort of thing. I accidentally stumbled upon the english version. I can't believe they gave Howl that voice. It's horrible and it totally changes his character!
It's also interesting just how different the reasons for which both ilaifire and I find Howl's character admirable. Hopefully that won't get in the way of what he thinks is a good monologue, but at least part of what he thinks is neat about Howl he's taking care of himself.:P

Personally, I find the Frou Frou version unfavorable, but your opinion is your own. :)

Aww. Thankses. Now, am I the puppy, the kitten, the photographer or do you just generally associate me with fluffy puppies?

Wow... The Bonnie Tyler version came out when I was in high school, so every version since has always seemed derivative - though I would put the Frou Frou version right up next to the original ( ... )

Ask anytime. :) I have French and Russian music, also in mp3 format, or just know a bunch of em on youtube. I could get them to you, and if you liked any, I would be happy to translate! :D

Thank you - you have posted a number of youTube vids for Russian songs before, but for some reason those are on the days I don't have time for "extra surfing" (riiiiight, like there's ever a day like that!)

I will gladly accept anything you wish to pass along, either as recommendations or even just randomness. I try to stay open to new music, I find some of the greatest stuff that way...!

Alrighty. I'm not sure how to upload musikz to lj or whether that's even possible, but there's plenty on youtube until I can either figure that out or get your email. :) Any requests? For topic, style, whatnot?

I originally heard this song done by Bonnie Tyler for the movie Footloose (I think). No other versions have really compared since then.

And one take on the "fresh from the fight" is not necessarily that he has been "fighting" but the adrenaline from physical activity is going to make him bolder and perhaps more powerful. It was speaking to the need for a strong powerful man who is going to protect (because he is a hero) and only dominate in the way she wants to be dominated. There is a certain sexual aspect.

And, I have the movie for "Howl's Moving Castle" if you want to come over and watch! It is one of my favorite Miyazaki movie.

I actually like newer version a little bit better, but both of them are way better than Frou Frou, in my opinion.

That makes sense, I guess.

Thank you, but I's already seen it. Ilaifire provided a copy to me. :)
